Meat Grinder Question

Got a new 1000w meat chomper from Northern Tool. Someone here liked that one. When I put the beast together, the big retainer when tightned all the way seems to lock the shaft up. I back it off and the shaft rotates free. Is this normal???

Well, I just decided to go for the gusto and try it. It ate up 2 7 pound butts in 5 minutes flat. I guess whatever was binding loosened up under power. Very happy with the grinder, but have never had one to compare. Now back to some Cajun Sausage!
