It's been a year or so since I wrote about these. Did some today. Pork Neck Bones. IMO they are sweeter and tastier than any rib.

What you need to cut out... the bloody areas

Now on a "cheap grill" build yourself a side to side fire

Once the fire has died down some add your wood chunks

After wood gets going good close lid and allow it to burn down

Now in my world Susan loves burnt stuff... it is great when I over cook something. Anyway these are her pieces... no sauce either...burnt up just for her... LOL~~!

My and Mother's pieces...with sauce

Cost of Neck bones 89 cents per pound. Now be very careful of the ones from any Scandinavian country. They generally are cut to close to the bone and there is nothing worse than nothing to eat after cooking. Also see if where you get them if the butcher will cut them into smaller pieces... easier to get to the meat.

Looks good Olds--the last time you showed us those I made a mental note to give it a try--now I see I'm going to have to get off my butt. I have some smoked pork chili happening tonight for Sunday dinner--good for keeping the foggy damp of a winter night at bay.
Cheers,

Looks very tasty Olds, rustic food cooked in a rustic way, and cheap to, great stuff!

Now you got me curious. The next time I order bacon from the slaughter house I'll see if I can talk the owner into selling me some neck bones.

Habs,

Do you have Shop Rite where you are?   I saw neck bones at mine the other day.

Habs,
Prime the pump a little with some smoked goodies and he might just give you some for nothing. I plan on bribing mine with some kielbasa tomorrow.
Bacon is the Crack Cocaine of the Food World.

Be careful about calling yourself and EXPERT! An ex is a has-been, and a spurt is a drip under pressure!

Deb;

Thanks. I'm heading into Kingston tomorrow, and check at Shop Rite. Shop Rite is also one of the few places to get oxtail without having to order, but you have to request to pick out your own or they will try to give you the smallest pieces.

10.5;
The animals he slaughters are raised on his own farm; and he already smokes his own meat for private use. He also makes his own sausage.

He may offer them to me, but he is already doing me a favor by selling me slabs. He prefers selling his slaughter hogs no smaller then half; though he will cut it up to order. As for his beef, you have to buy at least a quarter.
