I believe AB hangs magnetic tape to his cabinet doors and then stores the tins on it.

HCT, did you catch why he recommended the tins?
Carolyn

HCT

Carolyn, just that it blocks out the light and the convenience of hanging them on the cabinet doors to free up space. To me it's overly expensive plus I would need a ton of cabinet doors. :D :D :D

He uses Velcro to secure them to the inside of the cabinet doors.  As for using the metal containers, I believe it's mostly for the light blocking, but those kind of containers create a pretty good seal too.

One thing I did catch was to store whole spices up to 2 years and ground spiced no more than 6 months.  I use spices in some cases pretty quickly but I do not think I could afford to purge and replace my spices every 6 mos.
Carolyn

Me either.  I buy bulk and keep in freezer sealed up.  Seems to hold for a lot more than 6 mos!

That's it TT, Velcro. I don't know where I got magnets from. :D :D

Oh, the light blocking qualities of something opaque!
I forgot!  :D
I just wonder about how air-tight they would be.  Maybe lay some plastic over the top before screwing them shut?
I'm with you HCT, I barely have the cabinet space to be hanging things on the inside of the doors.  But it is a good idea...in theory.
I do what you do Caneyscud because I buy bulk bags from Penzeys for a lot of my spices and just keep a small amount in my cabinet.
