So I'm planning on doing a butt this weekend and wondered the following:

After I smoke for 4 hours, could I put it in the crock pot with apple juice on low? (10 hours)

Just thinking of a way to save the oven and also not keep it in the OBS for the slow heat up to 190...

Thoughts?

IMHO I wouldnt use the crockpot because of temp control and no moisture being allowed to escape. But what do I know?

How about a temp probe inserted in the butt, 2 hours of smoke and the rest just heat in your smoker, and dont crock pot it  ;D

NEPA I would do that, but the Mrs. is worried about leaving the smoker going all night regardless of what I say...  And since this is my first real smoke I figure I'll work up to that. :)

I have a Maverick that I'd put into the meat...

I could leave the lid ajar on the CP and see how that works?  That way some of the steam escapes, etc.

I tried the crock pot to finish some ribs, and it eas not good at all. Everything is finished in the Bradley now, exept in windy cold weather. Then I finish in the oven.

I have finished in a 18qt electric roaster before, When I did several for a wedding. By choice I still like to finish in the smoker.

I finish in the oven, the crock pot will only hold one butt. I usually do 4 at a time.

What's the difference leaving the crock pot or the Bradley going all night. I start my butts around 2100, get up @ 0100 and empty/refill the water bowl, transfer to the oven after breakfast.
