Ordered an Original Smoker yesterday...I hope to have next week...can anyone tell me how much heat is transmitted thru the bottom of the unit?  I am looking to elevate the unit by 18-20" from the deck.  It would be helpful to know if I should be looking for a flame-retardent surface....

Welcome to the Forum, Qball!  Good question!

I have my Bradley on a basic Formica countertop in my garage.  It is vented to the outside so i can use the smoker during the winter.  Bottom line is that there is very little heat transferred from the bottom of the unit.  I don't believe that it is necessary to put it on a fire resistant surface.
