It has been about 30 years since I was in Charleston so I can not help with the current BBQ joints. South Carolina and North Georgia has some of the best Brunswick Stew I have ever tasted. If you have never had any, you really should try it. Here where I live a couple of places sell what they call Brunswick Stew, but in reality it is simply chunky soup.

44 and raining here in IL. (should be 60)   On the way to Charleston, SC for our anniversary tonight.  60s - 70s there.

Any good restaurant/BBQ recommendations?  I know we have some former Charleston residents on the board.  We're renting a small apartment near the children's hospital/college.

We did 82 Queen last time. Twice, actually.

We will be heading down that way next friday to Charleston for a week.

We left in '93.

So some of these may not be there...

Poogans porch. just down the street from 82 queen

just about anything on shem creek

and there was the bbq joint on hyway 78 on the way to Goose creek... You know the kind... looks like it should be condemned.... The rule in SC is the shabbier the place looks on the outside the better the Q on the inside. They pay more attention to the Q than the maint.

Did that last time on a whim.  Had she-crab soup.  OH MY, not for those with 'milk' issues.  (but it was goooood)

Good to know.  There are a couple newer places (Italian/Low Country/etc.) near our rental. (Rutledge/Spring st area)

Thanks!

NePas, we'll wave to you from the plane as we depart next Thursday noon..

Congrats to FLBR on your 21st and to Squirt. My wife and I just had our 25th in Sept. That is the record for my family.

STC,

How did you like Poogans porch ?

That chop looks outstanding!

We need to get back to Charleston. Maybe I'll invent a "business reason"

It was out of this world!

I had tasso encrusted Mahi w/ pickled okra over a bed of Hoppin' John.  Too dark to get a good pic of, but there wasn't a spec left of it at the end...
