P.S. just a thought, has anyone used a vertical chicken roaster thing while smoking a chicken?  Is it irrelevant?  Probably messier and drippier.  Or beer can chicken?

Many have but I don't.  I use the vertical roaster for chicken, beer can or not, on the grill or in the oven.  I like to spatchcock a chicken, put some smoke on it and then put it on the grill to finish it.  IMHO, the temp is too low in the smoker to make beer can chicken worth while.  I'm sure someone will argue the point  :)  Hmmm.  I see OU just did  :D

Where there's smoke, there's food.

I use it too, because I'm too lazy to spatchcock.

Welcome to the forum Parrot Person.

Is that like a real parrot or a fan of Jimmy Buffet?

Anyway, welcome and as you can see, if you ask, people will help.

All we ask for is pictures of your smokes.

Here's a link to help you load them pics when you are ready to show and tell.

PS. I like to split my chickens also.

OU812

I split or as they say spatchcock my chickens most of the time.

But when I plan on makin them into soup I use the chicken holder uppers.  :D

Hey thanks again, all!  I like the spatchcocking idea for the chickens; seems they would smoke more evenly.  I may try the vertical thing just because it might use less rack space.  Oh yes, that would be parrots like macaws and African Greys and cockatoos and conures.  They are the one pet that you can give chicken bones to - they crack them open and eat the marrow.  Messy but nutritious for them.
