I got my 5lb bag of mies from Gus last week and I have been talking so much about it that some of my friends wanted some for themselves.  So I gave them both a 1lb of the breading.  One, a firefighter, said he was going make chicken for the guys at his station last night and asked me how to make it.  I suggested grilling the chicken thighs and gave him some tips such as the grilling temp, use a light coating of breading and spritz with water and to do a trial run at home before he cooked for his firefighter co-workers.  He told me he was going to bake the chicken in the oven and didnt think he needed to do a trial run.  I said "ok".  Mind you he's not much of a cook....  He calls me last night for some last minute advice and said he decided to grill the chicken.  45 minutes later the text comes in.... "bro I fu#@'ed them all up, burnt them all seriously...flames just came up all over the grill.  I should have baked them"  I sent back "you should never leave the grill unattended, I told you you should have done a trial run" and got the response "I know man, sucks"

I really wanted it to turn out well for him.  :-[  Oh well, there's always next time.

No not that one.  But I did give some of the mies to Steve, the one you met. (And he would have listened to my advice)  Not trying to sound like I know it all about cooking/smoking/grilling but I always do a trial run before cooking something new for a crowd.

I'm finding out more and more that a lot of fireman only know how to put water on something hot and watch it "Boil" and make "Steam".  :D  ::)  ;)
Just kidding of course but there are a few of them in my parts that call me for cooking instructions, but they listen to me.  :D

Would have been priceless to have the grilling session on video -- could use it for  fire/grilling safety.

Bet his coworkers won't let him live it down for a while.  I suspect he would listen to you next time, but doubt the rest of his crew will let him near the grill with a chicken again.

Yeah, he was pretty embarrassed.  I would have loved to been a fly on the wall during the cook out.   lol

You probably would have had your wings singed.  ;D

There was an episode of Chopped a while back.  One of the ingredients was wings.  One 'contestant' was a firehouse cook.  He said "Piece of cake".  I think he was the first one eliminated for serving raw wings.
