I died and went to Heaven today... (but I came right back)

Manhattan, Lower East Side.




Ok, backing up a bit...

Here is the line I was in, wrapped down the side street.




I'm in the door!   People are bumping into each other and shouting instructions in accents I can barely understand...




What do I want to eat?  I freeze.    I DON'T KNOW!




I panic for a minute..    But I spot a plate of goodness.




Minutes later as I work my way to the counter..   There are 7 carving stations and these guys are working like madmen during the lunch rush.  My (large tattooed wild eyed) guy eyeballs me and gestures w/ his knife.    Whad U want?!?!

PASTRAMI ON RYE!  I squeaked..

He flies into a flurry of carving and plating and swearing at no-one in particular, but tosses me a couple samples to get a picture of. (ate the first one, sorry)




A quick shot down the line before my order comes flying up on the counter in front of me.




I drop a shoulder and head into the crowds looking for a seat, 2 gentlemen take pity on my (and my backpack and camera and hat and scarf and load of food) and offer up a chair.

I settle down and try to put it all in perspective.   I'm almost shaking...  (didn't help that I hadn't eaten all morning, and it was pushing 1PM)

Oh, it did come with a 'side'.   A pile o' pickles.    




If anyone has seen the movie, you know the scene this is referring to.   I was sitting at the table next to it.




I tear into it and finish it off.   Man o' man...    Worth the wait/hassle and bill. (15 bucks for a sammie here)

That looks sooooo good, I've wanted to go there and bunch of other places in the city to eat, I'm only an hour and a half by car but easier to take the bus but they do have a Carnagie deli at the casino not far from here and the sandwiches are pretty good there, maybe in the spring when I get back from FL I might take a road trip to eat. (NePa are you listening?)

Pentax K200D.   DA 18-55MM lens. (whatever that means)
I just bought it off of a coworker a couple weeks ago, so I'm still learning how to use it.   Most of the time I leave it in 'automatic' mode.
