The levee near Hamburg Iowa broke this afternoon, went from 50 foot wide to 300 feet in a matter of minutes. There's video of it on the KETV website the town is scrmbling to get the secondary levee finished before the water reaches them.
Going to check the levee at Lake Manawa State Park in the morning, they're increasing the water release at Gavins Point Dam tomorrow they think it'll reach us Thursday or Friday.
I'll post pics tomorrow

I went down to the river last night and that road I was on taking these pictures is under water now.

Forgot my camera.

September at the earliest, experts predict it'll be around all summer.
Went to look at the levees by me yesterday, without the camera, and almost didn't make it back.
I was attacked by the 132nd Skeeter Squadron, man they are going to be bad this year.
Taking the Thermacell with me next time.

Yep I was told September also.  >:(

Then there will be pools of water in low lying areas that could last for years.

And they wont be able to plant crops on that land for 2 to 3 years as all the microorganisms and worms will all be DEAD.

They closed off a bunch more roads lastnight.

Hmmm - maybe a ICB competition with large skeeters as an ingredient?

Great pictures Don.

Unreal aint it?

We use to ride motorcycles in them trees on your side of the river.  ;D

Last time I was on I-80 and looked over to the North there was hundreds of people on the foot bridge taking pictures.

Gonna remember the camera next time I go to the bottom.

A couple shots coming outta the hills from my house.

The bluff on the top of the picture is Iowa, the trees in the middle are were the river should be and all that water is were crops were.

The ATV park on the southwest end of town by the Veterans Memorial Bridge is under water.
I'll have to get some pics of that for ya, it's a real mess.
They're releasing 150,000 cubic feet per second of water out of Gavins Point Dam in South Dakota, started Tuesday.
It'll hit us here in Council Bluffs/Omaha either tomorrow or Friday, will raise the water level another three or four feet. When it does that should put the water level at about 36 feet, our levees are 41 sure hope they will handle all that pressure against them
