When I smoke/cook I have always set the oven timer for a estimate of how long the meat will take to cook and set the smoke generator timer for how much smoke I want, i.e. 4 hours.  Should I be leaving the smoke generator on after smoking is done or only have the oven on?

I do if I know it is going to be a long smoke,it just helps with temp recovery.

I also turn my generator off after the smoke, my thoughts are the longer its on the sooner it will need to be replaced and it aint cheep.

Oh Ya,,, I also have the duel element mod and a couple fans stirring things up in there.

I also have the dual element modification, but prior to that I ran the smoke generator the full time for the extra heat for almost 5 years, and never had a major issue with the generator.
