Today I received a phone call from the BBQ Fest organizers.  They asked if I would be willing to be part of the whole hog judging team.  I said yes.  It's not a KCBS sanctioned event as it is a 100% charity event so they always have trouble getting enough judges that at least know a little something about BBQ because nearly all of them are already there cooking.  Hung up the phone and contacted STC because there is a possibility that one of the comp teams was going to have STC, Hal and me cook their comp chickens on my MAK because as the comp team leader put it "my guys cant cook chickens for s%#t!"   So I told Pat "Hey Pat, if David still wants us to cook chickens for him I am lateralling the ball to you".  If that other member of the forum shows up, he could get pulled into chicken cooking service as well! ;)

Bring It, Paducah!

(what pieces/parts of chickens would we be cooking BTW??  :o)

What days are you guys going to be there?

I will be at the Grillin & Chillin BBQ in Owensboro, KY about 130 miles away.

Was thinking of maybe dropping down for a minute or two.

Hal and I are rolling in on the 22nd (Mrs and I will there in the early evening, I think they'll be there earlier in the afternoon) and leaving the morning of the 25th.  Or whenever we all drag ourselves out of bed and to the cars.  :D

Pat & Hal, Last year they were all cooking full chickens and then about halfway through the organizers came back and said "oh, you can cook chicken halves if you want" so who knows for sure.

Anyone else have an interest in coming to Paducah?

You will have fun. I just judge whole hog at New Holland, PA a couple of weeks agos. They didn't follow MMA rules, but we had to taste the meat from five areas of the hog, and we had to judge six teams.  That is like judging five KCBS pork catagories, or tasting pork from 30 teams.

I have been a KCBS CBJ for three years. We had to judge right after judging the KCBS, but it was worth it. If you have the opportunity you should take it. Whole hog is generally judge last. If the team you volunteered to cook on is not competing in the whole hog catagory, and you are only needed to judge whole hog, you should be able to both cook on a team and also judge the whole hog event.

Thanks for the timing info Habs.  I'll definitely check into that.  Not sure if the team we were going to help out are doing whole hog this year or not.  I do know that in the past they did and won the category.  I'm definitely going to check though!

I called up the Mansion where STC, Hal And KyNola are staying and ask if

they had a room available. Lady said "NO, Sorry all booked up". Then told her

I was a friend of KyNola's. Things changed then. "Hold On. Ok I got you a

room, I Just cancelled someone else out." WOW! Sure pays to know Larry! ;D

Ok, now the real story. Lady said someone had JUST cancelled and I booked the room.

                  Here! Hold my Beer!

 ;D

It's a neat place - an old factory converted to an Inn..     Most of the suites are bigger than my house.

KyNola

And right across the street from the entire Fest!

Hey Sonny, ask STC what Mrs. Clark(she owns the place) said to him when he called and reserved his suite, the exact same one he had last year.
