I have the original bs and it is wearing out. I was going to go to a digital one but was wondering is there any with a higher watt element or do I have to do a mod.
thanks phaz

You have to do a mod. Add a 500w or a total off 1000w. Or you can do the single 900w

What part of your OBS is wearing out?

Mike suggested the higher wattage element mod, which is a popular option around here.  Going to a digital smoker isn't necessarily the best option if you want more precise temp control.  Adding an Auber PID controller and higher wattage elements to your OBS would solve a lot of issues if yours is wearing out.  You can get either an Auber plug-n-play PID controller or one that you install yourself in the SG or a project box.

If this interests you I can post links to everything you will need, including the how-to articles on doing it.

I have a DBS 6 rack. What can I do to increase my heating element?

You can do an additional element modification on the DBS also:

You still need the Auber PID to run the temp heaters though, right? Since the BDS can't handle the extra wattage load?

Yes! The safest way to go is to add a third party temperature control device. That can either be  a PID, or BBQ Guru. When you read the instructions, at the bottom of the Disclaimer, that is noted.
