I wanted to try a beer can chicken this weekend. Has anyone tried smoking one for a couple hours , then putting it on the grill to finish ??

i never have, though a  few friends of mine have done beer can chickens on there grills.. came out great,,, if i was  gonna  f=do a beer can  chicken id do one using an empty  vegie can with  label removed,,, id be concerned about the  ink from the  beer can contaminating the  food

Habanero Smoker

I have done it a few times. I only apply 1:40 hours of smoke; at 225°F, then transfer to the grill. I also place the beer can chicken on a metal pie pan (6-inch pie pans if you have them). That makes it more stable when you transfer the chicken from the smoker to the grill. After applying smoke, I remove them from the smoker, place them on a half-sheet pan that I use like a tray, and carry them over to the preheated grill.
