fresh water clams

any thoughts on freshwater clams >>  are they the same as oysters  ?  ;D

Steam, remove from shell, clean, brine for 30 minutes, air dry them, then smoke them for a couple hours.  If there are leftovers, or instead, you could make a nice smoked clam dip for topping on bruschetta.

thanks giz ......  was kind of excited when I seen alot of them down by the pond ..........  was thinking I needed a permit for and there was a season for harvesting .........  but looked on the DNR web site and all clams are now protected .  no harvesting private or commercial   >:(

If I find the link I will post an article about invading Asiatic Clams and you will see why.  I think those are edible, though.  Bet you could get 'em cheap.
