Just joined the Father's Club last Saturday at 4:53 pm.  Right now, my plans center on finding an excuse to catch up on some sleep.  Don't think the DBS will be fired up this weekend, but I bet I can find a few cold ones.

As for the smokin shack stencil, I'm sick but you could probably find a nice traceable picture of Porky and Petunia Pig online (not that I'm advocating infringement of any copyright)

Congrats to the new DADs  (and moms).  Enjoy the company of a new baby, time off, long nap, or what ever your enjoyment for the day is.

I have 25 lbs of baby back ribs that I am smoking for my grandson, his mother, step mom and her step daughters. He'll be back on Sunday, then he is going on a month long trip with his step mom to Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Tennessee and Colorado. I don't want him to leave hungry.

WCK:  Story?  Pretty much Mr. Toad's Wild Ride since this was our first, and so the "new experience" was a learning experience in spades.  Last Saturday at 4am straight up I hear my wife say "uh-oh" and I'm awake like I've had a double adrenoline laced espresso.  Load the bags and the wife in the car and head to the hospital (via work, where the camera was).  Doc visits the room and tells us that we should expect the baby at about 10pm (but it's 8 am now).  So wife braves through the discomfort and Mike spends the day helping her focus on the positive, her breathing (I am breathing! sez she), and fetching any type of fluid or jello or popsicle that will help ease the process.  Well, long story short: baby was delivered at 4:53 pm.  Just like Dad, baby wanted to "make good time" and his schedule did not include waiting until 10 pm.  Like Dad, he wanted to be able to say that he made that 18 hour trip in 13 hours.  Right when active labor began my wife said something so funny (more like screamed several times and loud enough for the whole birthing wing to hear)...  unintentionally funny, but hilarious... and I found myself desperately trying to overide the automatic belly laugh instinct or face a very long, painful death.  I was only marginally successful, but by turning my back I think I managed to hide my reaction from the wife.  I think the nurse had the same problem, but she was more professional.

So, meet our son Robert, born 6/9/07, 6lbs 12oz, 19 inches (Mom and Boy doing great, if you don't count sleep deprivation):

Proud poppa will be smoking some pork tenderloin later today, after all.  Many late nights and early mornings so far.  All that "training" in college and during the single years was good for something after all.

Thanks for the kind words.  Me and the boy have been listening to music for the past upteen hours (at least that's what it feels like).  But poppa is proud again: not the "quack, quack ducky" music, but my favorites which used to earn me those "turn down that noise" comments from my parents.  8) And the boy is now sleeping like an angel, whereas a few hours ago he more closely resembled Charles Manson.  What a wild (and fun) ride.  Have a good weekend.

Congrats Consiglieri,
Wow, I am surprised MOM would even let you entertain an idea of a stop at the office for the camera let alone let you go through it.  Nicely done and apparently with plenty of time to spare.   :)

Congrats from here as well!  You will NEVER forget that day.  My daughter (first child) was born on Father's Day the year she was born.  Monday she will be 29 and the day of her birth is still vivid in my mind.  Would not trade that day for anything.

I hope all you dads had a wonderful day with kids as I did. I had to work til 2:30 so I put a small butt and a rack of KC style ribs in BS prior to leaving out 4 work. then called the wiffie at 9 to have her put in split whole chix'n. Bout 5:30 we pulled them out, MAN O MAN did I screw up. Now I have two son-n-laws who want BS for xmas. So here is the question 1) do I have to feed them till xmas or save that money and get them one now??  hahahaha--- I know what you hard core smokers gonna say, LOL
