Not sure if there is a discussion on here about costs for meat but I thought I would start one.  I just got off the phone with the local butcher shop, Chris Brothers... (famous for their pepperoni) and they told me the following.

Fresh Pork Bellies - 3.99 // lb.
Beef Brisket - 4.49 / lb.

I am anxious to try my montreal smoked meat so i ordered the brisket anyway but for those in Canada or the US, are these good prices or are they out to lunch. I am thinking that these are inflated since i can buy double smoked bacon from them (which they do in house) for 4.99 / lb...  There are other options for me but these guys are close and I know them.

Thanks in advance,

Andy

Sounds high to me. I just bought choice briskett flat for $3.29 and whole brisket for $2.49 at Sams Club here in Alaska. But if it's close by, the price you save on gas might make it a wash. :)

Not sure about the bellies, but I can get whole brisket from Sams or Costco for $2.00/lb or so.  I found that one of my local supermarkets had bone in shoulder for .98/lb.  I picked up a few.  Since they were cryovaced (sp??), they went right into the freezer for a smoking good time later
Grab me another stout, or scotch, or martini, or........

I am buying a case of bone in shoulders (4 each cryovaced packs of 2) for about a buck a pound from my buddy that works as a meat cutter at a local grocery.  Thats a sale price, they usually go for around $1.30 a pound.

ROTFL.... I am about as far away from you as I can get.  :)

But.... I hear it is beautiful up there... Alaskan Cruises are pretty attractive i hear...

I get choice grade black angus brisket for 2.79 - 2.99 per pound. Can't help with the belly pricing.

I checked with my butcher last week about some pork bellies and they quoted me $3.99lb.  I can usually get the brisket at my local Sam's for around $3.00 lb.

I don't feel too bad then, I can probably score some from my brother since he usually grinds them up for hamburger... Brisket's aren't too popular out here.

Macman, if ya smoke up a few of the briskets, you could easily change the popularity of the cuisine in your area.  Gotta give them Texan's a bit of credit there.  ;)
