Can the digital smoke generator be adapted to the original Bradley Smoker?

Habanero Smoker

Hosshunter;
Welcome to the forum.

The digital smoke generator will not control the heat in the cabinet of the original Bradley. The digital smokers have a heat sensor in the cabinet, and the generator is connected to the cabinet by a sensor cord that helps control the cabinet temperature.

There are other temperature control devices that can control the smoker cabinet. If you want something right out of the box that you can just plug in and use, many of us use the Raptor/Guru. Others have built a temperature control device called a PID, and others use a TC controller. A search will come up with several hits on each of these devises.

With the Raptur/Guru you have four choices for temperature controls; from least expensive to most costly -  Pitminder, Competitor, DigiQ II, and the Pro Com 4. I currently have the Competitor, and the DigiQ II which I will be testing out this weekend. They may seem like they costs a lot, but you have so many features, and with optional blowers they can be used to control the heat in most charcoal smokers and pits. You just order from on place, take it out of the box, plug it in, and you can start smoking. The hardest part is waiting for it to arrive.

The Raptor can control a heating device up to 1800 watts so it is not just restricted to the Bradley. I have talked with the owner, he was telling me that with the DigiQ II, they lso have been using them to control electric indoor gridles, crockpots and other devices.

Hey Habs

If you could place a temp probe into the original, wont the digital smoke gen work?

Mr Walleye

I think NepPas is probably right. The only other thing you would have to do id either wire the power from the smoke generator directly to the tower element. Either that or I suppose you could leave it wired the way it is and just leave the temp slider set to maximum.

I think it could work. I've never seen the wiring that goes from the cabinet to the generator. I guess you could wire a thermocouple to it and stick it into the cabinet.
