I quit that nasty ciggarette habit in early November.
My wife says I have just converted my smoking addiction 8)
There is a major plus to that..
Us non-smokers (the cigarette kind) can smell a smoker from across puke filled bar. And smells horrible.... But the smoke from a good Bradley smoker (haha got a plug for the product in there!) makes you smell like you have been out by a camp fire all day long. Or those who are knowledgeable enough to recognize the smell of smoke from a smoker, know what you have been doing..
A wise friend once told me. "If you sit on the couch all day long drinking beer, your an alchoholic! If you sit in front of the smoker all day long drinking beer, your a hero!"

But she won't complain about this addiction as much
I am 58 and smoked since I was around 15 or 16. I quit last March when Florida decided to increase the tax by almost a dollar per pack. I simply refuse to be ripped off like that. Since I am about as stubborn of a person that you will ever meet, it was not tooooo difficult to quit. I have never (and do not now) consider smoking or a smoker nasty. I personally enjoyed smoking and have never had ANY smoking related problem. I recently was thoroughly checked from brain to toe for potential heart and/or cancer problems including clogging of arteries, bone marrow, etc. for another reason (which is a story in itself) and was given a clean bill of health. The doctors were surprised when I told them how long I smoked. They all stated that they never would have guessed that I ever smoked. Personally, I spent most of my life in an office environment and contribute most health issues to outdoor air pollution and over indulgence of food and alcohol rather than smoking. In any event, congrats on giving it up if that is what you wanted to do.

A lil off topic, but that is kind of like saying "I have ridden a motor cycle for years without a helmet, and never crashed and smashed my brains in!"
I was using the word "nasty" as "bad". Not as "unclean" or "disgusting". I personally enjoyed smoking for the 10 years I did it, but recently a friend of mine was diagnosed with lung cancer, so I decided it was time for me to quit.
Wildcat, I remember when you quit smoking, and KUDOS to you for still not smoking. It has been a few years ( 6 or 7) since I quit, and I went without a helmet, too........ ::)

And Hoss, great news that you have not smoked since November.
Keep it up!!!

Congrats on quitting. I smoked for 20 years and quit 10 years ago. Sure was hard at first. Got easier and easier as time went by. Now I can't stand the smell. I thought they were going overboard banning it everywhere, especially in bars. Must admit it, sure glad they did now.
P.S. Note my signature.

Wow, that's "MY" life story....to the T!
I have very strong feelings about our government creating laws that infringe on its citizens rights. (in many areas including smoking, guns, health care, etc.) Because I do not want to anger others on here that obviously feel different, I have decided to back out of this thread.
As a last comment, I commend anyone who sets a goal and never gives up in its pursuit, whether it be a career, stop smoking, stop drinking, or even properly rearing children.

I understand how you feel, I don't like to be told what to do either. But when you think about how much money in health expenditures are incurred just on people who contract lung, throat and mouth cancer alone, if by imposing these tough standards convinces, forces or causes some people to just quit and possibly having it safe their lives or save the health care system a bunch of money. Maybe that's not such a bad thing. I would rather see a few people live longer than have to go through lenghtly cancer treatments any day.

OK, Yes, cancer is bad, and like you, I don't want to see anyone go through the treatments. I have seen it before and that is what made me quit. However, I believe a personal choice should be made to prevent it. I think the government should be able to regulate on buses, airplanes, and such public places. But, in no way should government be able to regulate in privately owned resturants and bars. This is just wrong imho.
I will agree with you on this. No arguement at all. IMHO though, they should raise the price of them so high that no one can afford them. Of course that just sets up a black market cause where there is a will there is away. Of course I don't really agree with tex us to death policys, but this would be more like a tax us away from death.
You guys are making it hard to stay out of this.
;D ;D ;D just a friendly discussion thats all. We don't want to get all excited and piss anyone of.
we are adults and if you can't express your opinions without someone getting upset then we should all go live in the bushes. I used to smoke too but after I quite I have become hypersensitive to smoke. It sets of asma in me plus I can smell the smoke with hound like accuracy much to the shagrin of experimenting teenagers around my house. My youngest decided she would see what it was all about with her friends and later when she came home she had just got in the basement door when I said to her down the stairs " you have been smoking haven't you" and my kids can't lie to me at all so she said " how the heck did you know that, god I can't get away with nothing around here". ;D ;D So then we had the talk and she has never smoked since.

OK, here is my issue with this. Drive tobacco companies out of business and you will effectively destroy the livlihood of many tobacco farmers in the southern US. Every year, more tobacco is exported from the US than is imported. This is too big a business to just
shut down. And, also, why should smokers be discriminated against. The fact that many states are raising taxes on tobacco products to pay for roads and such infuriates me. Do most smokers drive? probably Do most drivers smoke? probably not. Why should smokers foot the bill?
I understand you guys wanting to have an intelligent mature conversation on this (as do I) but based on past experiences on this forum, there WILL be some members that will be offended, or upset because there view points are not accepted by someone and complaints will be made about this thread being political and/or offensive. Heck there were people upset with me simply because I was posting too many short comments or smileys. Look up and read the first part of "Running up post count" thread. That was started because several members (who did not want their names known) asked a friend to contact me and complain. I do not harbor hard feelings for these folks, they have to answer to their own conscience. I simply want to avoid that situation from repeating if I can. I think I came close recently by expressing my thoughts about how another member seemed to portray himself. I can argue and debate without getting angry very easily, but not everyone can.
Yeah, good point Wildcat, think we should just let it die.
Ok so how much do you pay for a pack of smokes down there. I guess I should remind you that you are talking to a Canadian. They are paying somewhere around $7 to $8 a pack up here so I now all about being tax to death. We get more taxes impose on us than probably most countries. But to say that you would put too many people out of work is like saying it is too bad they cloesd all of those asbestos mines and those poor people had to find other jobs. Perhaps we should open those mines and while we're at it lets reopen all those coke ovens that were destroying all the Great Lakes and polluting the worlds enviroment. Coal is one of the #1 polluting fuels there is but is right for canada to export it to china even though they are trying to get away from using it here. Is it fair to put those people out of work, no but maybe they could get jobs tending to the people with cancer cause by the product that the companys they work for are making huge profits on while the dumb suckers that are hook on must keep buying cause of their unhealthy addiction. We know that this product is not healthy for anyone and even though aunt eunice lived till she was 102 years old and smoked a pack aday there is no way you can argue about the problems to health it causes. So would it be fair to put these people out of work, about as fair as stopping me from selling loaded guns to children. That could be a profitable business and I wouldn't have to pay for the cost of burying the victims of that industry and I could put lots of people to work making them. If the government did put the tabacco companys out of business then they would have all that money to spend from the savings to health care and what they spend on telling us that we shouldn't smoke to provide other jobs for the Tabacco workers.

Ok so now I wish I had read this before my last post. Conversation ends here then or you can pm me either way.I hope no one was offended. I usually don't engage in politcal conversations cause everyone has the right to their own opinion. Sorry.
How about them Cowboys?
Did they play a good game or what?
More of a Jets fan myself. But yeah, they did play a good game!
I hear the yankees beat the the Vancouver Canucks again. ;) ;)
I just found out that I have an illegal (in Iowa) product on my shelves at the store. Guess that's what I get for not going to work the past 6 months plus. :)
And what might that product be?
190 proof Everclear. Sounds like Bacardi 151 is on it's way out as well.
What is the law? I didn't know that stuff was illegal (of course, I don't live in Iowa either).
Haven't seen the law yet...just read a news report about some kid at a private college here in Iowa that went to the hospital with a .50 BAC, from drinking Bacardi 151. The article said that the 190 proof Everclear had been made illegal a few months ago.
I suppose you can't idiotproof everything
So...
You guys cooking anything new this week?
Spaghettios..........might kick them up with a little everclear now. lol
Probably gonna try a butt this weekend. Wife threatened to cook it into Carnepas though!

That's the spirit (no pun intended) TT!
Spoon a splash of the sauce off to the side for the kitties. My little buddy Frazier used to be a tomato sauce hound. He'd turn his face red licking up the plate.

Reason enough to do two, then! Practice/Experiment a little..
I've got a bottle of Tony Chachere's cajun butter in the garage... I might 'juice' a beer can chicken with some of that.
I usually just let them wash the bowl for me................
Okay, I do actually hand wash it in the sink too, if I'm eating that kind of stuff several meals in a row....like now.
Only got one on hand. Reason enough to go back to the meat market though ;)
I deboned a Turkey breast, injected it with Creole butter, cut in half and
rolled up each half into a ball, tied it together and gonna smoke it tomorrow and finish on the traeger.
A couple local stores have pork butt and roaster (maybe fryer? what's the difference?) chickens for 89 cents a pound.. Hmm...
CRG, let us know that turns out! (and how you did it)

Size of the chickens I think. I think fryers are smaller.

Everthin' ya wanted to know about the differences.................
Age
Fryer chickens are 7 to 13 weeks old, while roaster chickens are 3 to 5 months old.
Size
Fryer chickens weigh between 1 1/2 and 4 lbs. Roasters are larger and weigh between 3 1/2 and 7 lbs.
Serving Size
A whole fryer chicken is typically enough food to serve three to four people, and a roaster chicken serves between five and seven people.
Flavor
The meat of a roaster chicken is typically more flavorful than a fryer.
Tender
While roaster meat is tender as well, the meat of the fryer chicken is especially tender.

[confession time]To be perfectly honest, that beer can chicken I smoked the other night was the
first 'whole' chicken I've ever cooked. We've been boneless/skinless chicken breast snobs for a while (maybe a wing here and there at a party) - but we're fighting our way out of that mold now!
