Title: Fathers Day 2010
Post by: FLBentRider on June 18, 2010, 05:49:52 PM
Plans?

You still going to smoke/cook or hand over the reins?

Not sure here other than DS gets back from scout camp Saturday night, DS leaves on mission trip in Bahamas early Sunday morning.

I haven't been home for Fathers Day in like 5 years (Seems like I'm always @ scout camp)

Decided to make it as easy as possible on myself and yet make use of my barely broken in OBS. Trying chicken wings and moink balls. Picked up some wings and frozen meet balls and plan to have those along with hotdogs and mac & cheese. Mrs. Jan makes some good mac & cheese! We're expecting 6-7 adults and 4 young ones and its going to be a hot day again (94-96 degs). I plan to fire up the charcoal grill to finish off the wings and to cook the hotdogs! Happy early Father's Day to all the dads!

My two daughters and their SO's are coming to cook on Sunday.  I got six prime NY strips at the butcher yesterday.  Debbie (wife) got the wine today.  Let them make what they want.  I'm going to relax and have a few, as CRG calls them, 'adultery'  bevs.  I might even get my car washed.

Pulled pork here on Sunday afternoon.   The butt is resting in the fridge in the garage after I rubbed it.    Will start the smoke tomorrow and it'll go all night.    I'll check it Sunday morning early when I leave the house for a 6:12 T off.    Son wants to take me golfing.   He's been practicing and figures sooner or later he'll beat me ;).

I have been informed that we will be going to see my Step Dad at some point during the day and we will be stopping in to see the FIL as well. I don't expect to be doing much cooking outside. As it is forecast that we will be receiving "Impressive amounts of rain" on Sunday.

I'll be smoking a whole chicken that I will soon be taking out of the brine I've had it in for 4.5 hours.  Going to use my new auber pid I received early for fathers day.  Looking forward to using it.  Will also slice up some potatos and put in foil with butter and onions and peppers for a little grill action.  Adult beverages will also be in the mix as well.

Happy Father's day to the rest of the dad's out there.

I told the wife I wanted to have some of my friends over with their families and have a cook-out/pool party.  I had a whole beef tenderloin that I got a while back so I decided to roast that.  No slow and low for this cow.  I seared it and then roasted it until the IT was 120.  I made some bernaise sauce and my own special red wine reduction sauce... MMMMMM  Great Eats...

DM - I like German food too - being German.  There's a local German restaurant.  After getting my appetizer of two potato pancakes for $8.00 I crossed them off my list.

Snelly - The tenderloin sounds good.  I love the Bernaise but it's really 'rich'.

Sounds like everyone had a good day, pizza included  ;D

Personally, I am not a big fan of the Bearnaise sauce.  I just make it cause my guests seem to like it.  I like the red wine sauce best but some people are turned off from the shrooms.

Snelly - You didn't mention the shrooms in your post.

I like any kind any way.  My father was from Germany and he knew which ones to pick in the woods.  I wouldn't trust my self on that.

Yeah I sauteed some shrooms in my sauce.  The wife doesnt like the shrooms but she loves the sauce??? Here's what I did
suateed shrooms in EVOO and the drippings from the seared tenderloin
red wine
beef broth
garlic
milk
and I used sour cream to thinkin the sauce (usually use cream but ran out)

I was know to pick a few shrooms back in my younger daze....   ;D :-X
