Title: Anyone had their smoker stolen?
Post by: Ants on July 19, 2010, 07:17:28 PM
We recently were victims of thieves they broke into our shed in the back yard and stole a few yard items.  Our backyard faces a greenbelt so its quite easy for someone to come in from the back and take something and no one will even notice.

I just got my OBS and I'm concerned leaving it outside b/c its so light. I'm contemplating just bringing it back into the garage every time I dont use it.  What do you guys think?

I'd say if you have concerns about its saftey, Bring that darling inside.

Get you a roller cart to make things easier.

Besides be stored inside will probably prolong it's life.

Knowing these guys around this forum, there's probably a page in the mod section of the recipe site about how to install security cams, motion sensors, sirens, and a phone line to automatically call 911 in case of theft.   But I'm just guessin'.

:D

Several thousand volts should pretty much do it.  :o  ;D

They'll only do it once.  ::)

I would probably classify a Bradley as a low theft item. Most folks would look at it and think it might be a small fridge. They usually go for Electronics or Jewelery. For most, it would be easier to sell a Lawn Mower than a Bradley. Just an opinion.

No problems with mine being swiped while we were gone all last week and we face a green built.  Kids are too damn dumb to know a high quality piece of equipment!

Don't have to worry too much about mine being stolen, since my last divorce i do not have any furniture in my living room so i just put them in there when they are not being used. :)

UpinSmoke , sounds like you've had "several" divorces. :-\

All I know is that if someone steals my smoker, they better pray I don't get my hands on them.

Anyone ever had their shoes stolen?   Now that sucks. >:(

So if someone is gonna steal your smoker, they better steal your

shoes too so you can't catch them. ;D

I really don't worry about somebody coming here to steal something.

I have a dozen Bulldogs that BITE!

Most time I don't lock the door hoping someone trys to go in when I'm not home.

If they do, shame on them.

Can't give you any technical advice on the electronics involved with smoker security but I CAN give you a great recipe for smoked thief!! (It involves a Colt 1911 rub but is known to be quite a bit higher in lead content than halibut  ;) )

I leave my smoker on my deck, because I don't have enough space in my shed to store it. I live in the country and have had things stolen out of my back yard and front yard. Several years back someone even tried to steal my snow blower, but I think it was too heavy for the thief or thieves so the decided to leave it. It was a Troybuilt 10 hp, that was built before they were bought out.

If you have concerns, I would follow CRG's advice, but I like Mike's (Mr. Walleye's) advice better. :)

I bring mine into the house, I've learned to keep things locked up that I want. It may not stop them, but it slows them down.

I wish more of my neighbors were like yours. But I'm the one they can count on!  8)

Try CRG's plan.
Thieves don't want to get caught and/or killed.
They will move along and find an easier target than the house with the DOGS.

While you're at it, throw up a sign:
NO TRESSPASSING
SURVIVORS WILL BE PROSECUTED

I just had some jackwagon somehow get my debit card number and buy some stuff on the internet this past week.  Fortunately, I caught on to it only after $150.  The cops won't do a danged thing about it for $150 so as soon as I find the smacklefooses' name, it's time for some street justice.

And anyone that would attempt to steal anything I smoke or grill food with may as well try and take my wife and kids, the result would be the same as soon as I catch up with them.

I have a neighbor down the road who has a tank by one of his buildings. On the tank he has a sign that says "We don't bother to call 911."

I'm in the process of building my own little DAS RAUCH HAUS (the smoke house) He will be in there all by himself under lock and key. Never had trouble with theft here every one knows I hunt a lot. I even reload my shells. Was a small arms repairman in the U.S. Army. Plus I am a postal worker (enough said you know are rep.) LOL

NePaS,  judging from the photo I would say in your son's case cripples are not an option.

NePaS,

A big THANK You to your son (and family) for his service!
