Title: Well, shoot
Post by: Tiny Tim on September 05, 2010, 02:18:07 PM
What a bummer of a weekend now.  As those of you who were in the chat sessions this week may recall, I was going to fire up my old grill this weekend, for the first time in 2 years.  Got some meat Friday, propane Saturday, was going to grill lunch today, but didn't have a fire stick to light it with, so that plan died.  Just came back from getting a long lighter, burned the cobweb out of the propane regulator connector and hooked it to the cylinder.  Walked around to the front of the grill to light it and burn some residue off, but the knobs are rusted tight.  Also noticed the inactivity took a toll on the grates, so they'd need replacing.

Went to the manufacturer's website (Coleman), and found the parts I need to fix it, but it'll cost about $130 plus shipping.  Guess I may look for a closeout deal Tuesday when I go to the City...should be a good time to find a deal, since the season officially ends this weekend.

My grill decided not to work this weekend also..... and then there is my pellet grill that decided to do what it wanted :o

Good luck in the grill search.

The weather is actually cheering me up about this...it's raining, so I wouldn't have been able to grill tonight anyway. ;D ;D ;D ;D

Afraid a Traeger Lil Tex would be a bit out of my league right now, even a used one.  Thinkin' a cheap gasser to get me by for a couple years until I can get something better.

Dang, Tiny, That S*CKS...
To heck with those expensive parts - get a $5 charcoal grill, and LET-R-RIP!

I have been in that situation too many times. That's why we need an arsenal of weapons in our inventory to complete any task!! :D

That sux!  Also why I haven't had a gasser for a few years now.  Two concrete blocks and a rack from somewhere.  That and deadfall limbs is all I need to make the best steaks and hamburgers around.

I'm a charcoal guy too, had too many flame throwers in my day.

I had a coworker turn his busted gasser into a charcoal grill...     Tore the guts out, and put a couple hibachi-style grills in the bottom of it.

Time for an update to this thread.  Last year when the grill died, I decided to just get by with the Foreman Countertop grill for a while.  A couple of weeks ago, after my housing situation got kinda straightened out, I ordered a couple needed parts (regulator and grates), tried to put them on a week ago yesterday, but found the pipes had rusted off the burner as well, so placed the order for that last Sunday night.  Parts showed up this morning so I put the grill back together tonight, and just had my first "Real" grilled piece of meat in nearly 3 years...a NY Strip that I picked up the other evening at the grocery store.  Sorry, no pics as camera battery is currently dead (if it ain't one thing it's another around here), but, OH........MY...(sorry, went into a coma there for a minute)....GOD was it good.  Had taken it from the fridge when I had a little work to do yet on the grill, hit it with Lawry's and took it outside with me.  Cranked the grill to high and let it warm up for a while and burn some residue off the new parts, and dropped that bad boy onto it.  Used the 2-2-2-2 method (approximately), and while it may have been a little rare yet, it was AWESOME.  Only bummer is that my last bite had that little gristly piece on it, so that sucked.

All told, the parts ran about $180, but I think I added a piece or two to what I had priced last year.  About half the price I paid new for this thing around 6 or 7 years ago, so if I get another 4 years of use and 3 years of no use out of it, I'll be happy. lol
