Title: Smokin' for a Charity Auction
Post by: squirtthecat on October 07, 2010, 06:42:42 PM

My wife's school (parochial, elementary) has a big charity auction/dinner fundraiser every year...    Tomorrow evening is the next one.

Last year I donated this package - and it brought in around 475 bucks:

Hal was my wingman on this, and took care of the ribs, and the rub we used (http://forum.bradleysmoker.com/index.php?topic=12482.0).  We ended up delivering a lot more than what was listed.

He'll be sitting next to me tomorrow night (rather, we'll be standing in the back of the room w/ beers in hand) as we take it up a notch..

Quote10 pounds pulled pork
10 pounds sliced brisket
3 racks ribs
8 pounds turkey breast roast (all white meat)

Hardwood smoked,  vacuum sealed and frozen for delivery.

--

If the winning bid is over $400, we'll do another package for a matching $400+ bid from the 1st runner up..
(if over $500, we might be persuaded to do 3, etc.)

Wish us luck!!

Awesome.  You can get away with beers in hand at a school auction?  Sent my daughter to the wrong school.

Catholic School...    ;)

For the first couple years, the 'mens group' donated 99 bottles of beer in a wheelbarrow.   I've got a picture somewhere..

They'll have 2 bars (if not 3) open for this thing.   So far there are 350 attending.  Probably some more will walk in.
No children - this is for 'grown ups'..

Adult beverages at a charity auction?  Let's see...  Attendees buy the beer (profit for the cause) and probably raise their average bid by about 10%?  Well, DUH!

Probably more like 25% to 50% - Are the free drinks in Vegas really free? no.

I like the idea, don't think it would float at Sweet Pea's school.  I want to attend your auction!

Thanks!  We had a good time.   There was almost 375 people there, and most of the live auction items went for some decent money.   Thanks to Hal and Mrs for attending and dropping some $$$$ for the school!

Ask Hal about his new toy..

(no, this wasn't it - but someone took a very cute puppy w/ VERY large paws home...)

I won the auction for an I-Pod Touch.  Don't really know what it is or what it does, but I'll figure it out!

I've got some ideas for next year...   Maybe not so MUCH food.  (even though we do vac seal & freeze it in small portions)

Perhaps 2 of the 'big' packages as outlined, then some smaller ones (just ribs, just turkey, just pulled pork, etc.)

More of a 'meat menu'.

I noticed some other auctions that involved a "mutually agreed" time and/or place...
Maybe if we did some HOT deliveries?

Whatever it is...  Maybe some kid can stay in a decent school and grow up to NOT rob me.  That makes it all worth while.  Once we went beyond TWICE the item's value, and some guy wuz still bidding against me...  Well..  at THREE times it's value --- when he still wouldn't quit...  I looked at MrsD..  She just gave me the nod...
(She don't wanna get robbed either!  It's an INVESTMENT)
