I got my 5lb bag of mies from Gus last week and I have been talking so much about it that some of my friends wanted some for themselves. So I gave them both a 1lb of the breading. One, a firefighter, said he was going make chicken for the guys at his station last night and asked me how to make it. I suggested grilling the chicken thighs and gave him some tips such as the grilling temp, use a light coating of breading and spritz with water and to do a trial run at home before he cooked for his firefighter co-workers. He told me he was going to bake the chicken in the oven and didnt think he needed to do a trial run. I said "ok". Mind you he's not much of a cook.... He calls me last night for some last minute advice and said he decided to grill the chicken. 45 minutes later the text comes in.... "bro I fu#@'ed them all up, burnt them all seriously...flames just came up all over the grill. I should have baked them" I sent back "you should never leave the grill unattended, I told you you should have done a trial run" and got the response "I know man, sucks"
I really wanted it to turn out well for him. :-[ Oh well, there's always next time.
Sometimes it's funny when You know how to do something and get ask
"how to do it", you go thru the trouble of telling them and ............
They have a better plan! ;D
Ironic too... "Firefighter sends chicken up in flames"
Snelly - Would that Firefighter be one that I met at the FLSO?

No not that one. But I did give some of the mies to Steve, the one you met. (And he would have listened to my advice) Not trying to sound like I know it all about cooking/smoking/grilling but I always do a trial run before cooking something new for a crowd.

Me too -nothing worse than having to order pizza because you miscalculated.
I always practice new things on my company. Some even come back. ;D
What a second a FIREMAN that can't COOK???? That is something. Snelly your gonna have to give that boy some lessons or something.
I'm finding out more and more that a lot of fireman only know how to put water on something hot and watch it "Boil" and make "Steam". :D ::) ;)
Just kidding of course but there are a few of them in my parts that call me for cooking instructions, but they listen to me. :D

That's what I was thinking! ;D
Would have been priceless to have the grilling session on video -- could use it for fire/grilling safety.
Bet his coworkers won't let him live it down for a while. I suspect he would listen to you next time, but doubt the rest of his crew will let him near the grill with a chicken again.
Yeah, he was pretty embarrassed. I would have loved to been a fly on the wall during the cook out. lol

You probably would have had your wings singed. ;D
There was an episode of
Chopped a while back. One of the ingredients was wings. One 'contestant' was a firehouse cook. He said "Piece of cake". I think he was the first one eliminated for serving raw wings.
