Was in the mood to take some fall pictures so I walked down to the falls 5 minutes from my house.

Devo, you kill me with all you gorgeous pics.
That's a real rare capture for this time of year. I thought they had already started hibernating!
Devo.............you spotted Tracker Smurf doing his thing.
Ray
That mushroom that papa smurf is looking looks like the death cap mushroom also known as the flying amanita. Please don't eat the thing before you check it out well. I can not see the whole thing but I would be very carefull.

;D ;D ;D ;D
I'm an old Ukrainian boy Kirby, I been picking mushrooms when I was the size of that smurf. ;)
Don't worry it's not the edible one, that was just a joke there bud.
Very beautiful area!
Went back to the falls yesterday and took some more pictures. This time I used the auto bracketing setting on the camera. (takes three pics in a row at different exposures) and then ran it through a program called photomatix. The results came out kind kinda neat ;D

Then I had to go to Thunder Bay, about 20 miles away from where I live in the country and took a picture of the "Sleeping Giant"
The Sleeping Giant is a formation of mesas and sills on Sibley Peninsula which resembles a giant lying on its back when viewed from the West to North-Northwest section of Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada. As one moves southward along the shoreline toward Squaw Bay the Sleeping Giant starts to separate into its various sections. Most distinctly in the view from the cliffs at Squaw Bay the Giant appears to have an "Adam's Apple". The formation is part of Sleeping Giant Provincial Park. Its dramatic steep cliffs are among the highest in Ontario (250 m). The southernmost point is known as Thunder Cape, depicted by many early Canadian artists such as William Armstrong.
An Ojibway legend identifies the giant as Nanabijou, who was turned to stone when the secret location of a rich silver mine now known as Silver Islet was disclosed to white men.

Yes I was also looking at the D3100 but it didn't have the auto bracketing feature so it was the next camera up. The D5100 has a lot more bells and whistles than I need but it was also on sale so I went with it.

Those are really awesome pics!
I wish I had a "nice" camera!

Tell you what, I'll trade you that camera for your new smoker ;)
;D ;D ;D ;D
Beautiful.....Beautiful...... Beautiful. You are killing me Devo with those beautiful pics. HDR? We don't have any fall colors yet. I like the Nikon stuff, have had Nikon for 30 years. But my technology stops at the D2X. Can't spend $6K for a D3X body when I could buy a great smoker or two or three.

If you have a car to trade I know where you might be able to get a deal on a big smoker. ;D
Just beautiful Devo!
Went out for a walk this morning. Took along the camera. Tried to take some updated winter pictures of the summer pictures I had taken. Very windy day today.

Beautiful snow pics. At least I can look at some snow if we're apparently not going to get much of it this winter. My back will be happy that I don't have to shovel the driveway and my bike will be happy that I can get out and pedal more often before spring.
It's been a crazy winter so far. The normal high around this time in January is 39*F. It is supposed to get up to 64*F Friday. Not good news for the local ski resort.
thanks for bumping this thread Devo, I missed it first time round.
Awesome photos mate.
Stupid question for ya. Is the water still flowing under the ice on the waterfall?
Wow...that is beautiful...I am so looking forward to snow on our mountains...
WOW.....I had to stop and put a heavy coat on just to finish looking at the pictures...............BBBBBBBRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!

QuoteStupid question for ya. Is the water still flowing under the ice on the waterfall?
Not a stupid question. Yes it is. There is a hydro dam about two miles up river & three aqueducts, each three metres (10 feet) in diameter, were built to carry the water from the dam above the falls and then through four penstocks to the generating station below?a total drop of 58 m (190 feet). These where replaced with two much larger ones about 15 years ago. If you look at this picture you can see open water from the flow from the generating station down river. Hydro maintains fixed minimum flows over the falls during daylight hours from June to the end of September of 300 cubic feet per second (cfs) on weekends and holidays, and 150 cfs on weekdays.
