I would figure 12-15 hours to be safe, and factor in 3-4 hours of FTC time.

So I would put it in around 9-10 pm tonight.

Empty/refill the water bowl and check the V-tray drain hole at the 4 hour mark, and every four to six hours after that.

It could be a stubborn butt and take 18 hours on you, you need to be prepared for that.

I had an 8.5 lb butt take close to 18 hrs a few weeks ago. I would go in earlier, you can always FTC for hours till your ready to pull. It'll be still pretty dam hot when you take it out.

1 1/2 to 2 hours per lb.  I remove mine when the internal temp reaches 195*F and then FTC for a few hours until ready to pull, depending on when it is being served.

The cooking time can vary widely.  I've had an 8 lb butt take less than 12 hours and another one of about the same size take 18 hours.

The longest I've ever FTC'd something was a pork butt that got ready way too early.  I left it in FTC for 5 hours.   When I took it out, it was so hot I could barely touch it.   I've heard of people FTCing for 6 hours.   But if you're looking at a long FTC, it would be wise to preheat the cooler box before you put the butt in.  Just put some hot water in it to heat it up.  Then when you put the butt in, it'll stay hot a little longer.

That's 20 hours before the party and it should be done by then.  I've never left it in the cooler longer than 4 hours.  If it gets done way too early some people will pull it and stick it in the fridge, covered, and reheat it about an hour before serving.  They claim it actually tastes better after it has cooled down and been reheated.

I've had 4 butts in an igloo "ultra-cold" for 7-8  hours.

If it is only one butt, (and it is going to be more than 4 hours) I would pre-heat the cooler (as previously stated) and pack additional towels to fill the additional space in the cooler.

You could put in a heating pad as well if needed.
