Well I had some time and with the inspiration from Dr Seuss I managed to assemble my foot control. This thing has a bunch of gozentas [you know like this gozentas this and that gozenta that]. I had several things that I was trying to accomplish.
- Hands free foot control.
- Simultaneous water start and stop with instantaneous pressure drop and shut off. [This is so the meat stops coming out instantly when the foot is removed
- Power to system is easily switched on and off
- Bypass around control system for pumping the water out to suck the piston back for fast refill.
- Water pump is switched for easy operation
- I wanted everything to be attached to one platform.
I won some sort of an award for a project using the most street 90's. It does work great though. The piston stops and starts instantly and the piston returns very fast. My stuffer base will hold the smallest and largest stuffer I produce. I have a 15# stuffer on it. I am looking forward to doing a sausage project with it. Here is the video link and some still pictures.Click link to see videohttp://s943.photobucket.com/albums/ad274/pikeman_95/MAKING%20SAUSAGE%20WITH%20KENNY/FOOR%20PETAL%20CONTROL/?action=view¤t=MYFOOTCONTROLFORTHESTUFFERSAVEDFILE.mp4

No leaks and it works just like I intended it to work. It is going to be so easy to use and you will be able to make sausage in a one man operation. At any time you wish you can take your foot off the pedal and the meat stops instantly.

Very interesting Kirby. I was thinking about doing something similar when I get around to putting mine together.
It's still in pieces, but it is sitting on the new stuffing cabinet.
Man that is the schiznitz for sure Kirby.
FREAKING AWESOME
KIRBY FOR PRESIDENT
HOG DANG!
That is just awesome! One day I will be a proud owner of a super duper foot controlled Kirby Cannon and mixer.
Kirby my hat is off to you my friend.
Very Cool!!
So now what are you going to do with your hands ;)
You may need an engineering degree to operate it. ;) ;D ;D
Looks good. :)
Nice build Kirby. I added my valves last week and been to busy to post it but it works great. I got two FREE solenoid valve's from work. One normally open and one normally closed. Got a sewing machine foot peddle off of ebay for 12 bucks. I also have the same electric pump I use to draw the piston back.

Video is not good but you get the idea. For the test purpose the cannon didn't have the plunger in it. You can see the water flowing in and when I step off the foot peddle, water discharges through the drain.

Awsome, just awsome, can't wait to get to south florida so I can "play" with mine too
That is amazing!

I looked at the valves that you have there. They are Asko valves and rather expensive. That is why I took the path I did. The valves that I used were something like $ 14 each and I think they had free freight. I did get the relay from the used junk bin at work. I will locate a place to pick one of them up. It looks like you system is going to work well.

Yes you are right about that. 185 bucks a piece. Thats why FREE from work is always good ;D
I have done a little research and here is some information. First the link to the valves.

You can get a 120 volt 10 amp relay from Radio Shack for $10.
And I have drawn up a couple of diagrams
First the piping.

My wife wont let me have mine in the kitchen (when she is home)
I gotta work on my leak problems.

Awesome work, Kirby. And I must honestly say, I'm totally intimidated and lost by what you've posted here.

I would suggest you might get some brass hose inserts with some good hose clamps and replace the screw together plastic hose connections. Where else did you get some leaks?

The valves connections are tight, connections to the stuffer are tight, its the T where i am getting the leak. Took it apart and treated the thread and still getting it. Maybe i need to get a new T. My wife told me last night that if i can get the leak thing fixed that i can use it inside.....YAY ;D
If you have re-doped the T and it still leaks you might have a small crack in the fitting. What are you using for dope? I have found the white teflon filled dope works bets on plastic fittings. What ever you will get it fixed and be back in the house. That is great news. You might set your stuffer in a rubber tote lid. Then any leak you might suffer will be caught and easily cleaned up. I have done that and it gives my wife a feeling of confidence.

This seems to make my wife happy. I still seem to be able to get meat where it shouldn't be.

Kevin
If you decide to do it some day I will talk you through it. It sure works well. I love to have my hands totally free and have the piston stop instantly. Plus everything is on one cutting board so you always have every thing you need in one place.
KC
Kirby, you're stuffer speaks to my heart. I'm plumber by trade. ;D
I would definitely like to learn more about this Cannon myself.
Sam
send me a PM with your personal email and I will send you some info.
KC
PM sent. ;)
Awesome job Kirby?.. On all aspects.
Sorry kirby don't know where that ?... Mark came from.
The ? mark probably came from whats he going to build next ;D
Nice job Kirby.
Excellent as always! ;)

Question for you Devo,
What kind of appliance or machine would have a solonoid like that? I kind of like the junk digging kind of way of finding supplies.
Thank you,
Dasmoke
Dasmoke
I did locate that relay in the junk box at work and it works great. But thinking that not everyone would have access to something like that I did a little research and found a 120 volt coil 10 amp cube relay at Radio Shack for $10 bucks. It has spade connections on the bottom but that should not be an issue.

Those types of solenoid valves are used in many industries but I don't think you find them in common house hold appliances. I work in the pulp & paper industry and we have them all over the mill so it was just a matter of finding the right instrumentation guy to talk to that would leave the right ones that I wanted lying around. ;) If you catch my drift.

Here is a link to the solenoid valves that I used.

Thanks for the help guys. I have been gone all this time Kirby so I have not had time to put the cannon together yet. I just went shopping and bought everything except the cutting board. Cabelas wanted 40.00 for one. I found an electric pump on sale for 50.00 at Menards. Hopefully I can start getting it together tomorrow.

This is my next project now that my fridge is pretty much done. I have all the parts and am figuring out how I'm going to hook up my auto foot control.
I'm going to have as much of the plumbing and power built in under my counter in the cabinet since this is going on a dedicated counter.
I'm even thinking that I can hook the drain line like a dishwashers.
Hopefully I can do this and have just one water line coming through the counter top.
Work permitting I plan to start on it this weekend.
