We're heading downtown to check out the Old Capitol Blues and BBQ Festival...
I'm judging, and MrsSTC will ride in with Hal and MrsD.
Then we'll do a little reconnoitering for next year.. ;) Should be a good time.

I skipped dinner and breakfast. Might make some toast for the drive in. :o
Looking forward to the pictures Pat.
Have fun guys
I always look forward to your pic's. I know y'all will have fun.
Remember no SHIGGING allowed! :o
shigging (shig-ging) , 1. v. to enter a persons BBQ site with intent of stealing BBQ secrets in an effort to improve one's own BBQ score. 2. v. to position one's self to view the contents of the inside of a fellow competitors BBQ pit when it is opened
Their BBQ team could write a book about shigging other teams recipes and techniques.
Shigging? Us choir boys on the prairie?
Nawwwwwwwwww...
Finally home safe and sound. (gawd I am so full) Some event pictures forthcoming.
No stealing necessary.. ;)
Not much... just a couple I snagged with my phone...

Hey Hal, a whole lotta Backwoods on the comp field.
I'm getting ready to add new Backwoods to my arsenal.......
The Competitor if things go right.

The Competitor if things go right.
Talked to some guys there that are gonna go that way...
Well.. Anyhow... They had FatBoys, and said they were gonna "step up".
Pat mentioned I had a
misbehaved CHUBBY named "Christine".
And they all ran in ten directions...
(I guess some kids are
so precious you just can't sell 'em at auction)
Ok, so after sampling food (some really good, some mediocre, one was almost RAW :o) for 2.5 hours, I stumble out into the street.
Couple church groups cranking out ribs, and dirty rice. (2 thumbs up from MrsSTC)

Slight higher budget outfit across the street from them. I think I judged their ribs and they were picture perfect.

It was a good time. But my stomach still hurts...........
Cool pictures, I can barely afford meat for my primo let alone one of those meat monsters, Geez :)
Looks like a great time. I always find it neat to see all of the different rigs. Some high dollar, some on a tight budget, yet if used correctly they can all turn out some great food.
(Except for that dude burning mesquite :o) I guess that falls under the phrase "if used correctly". ;)
Better watch out Miss June will be eyeing up that flying pig!
Cool!
Looked like a good time
I bet that deliverance banner turned some heads
Audrey and I will definitely put it on the calendar for next year.
Hey Squirt, did they use KCBS rules? Were there a not of teams or did I miss that?
Also what did you think of your first judging opportunity?

Yes and no. Mostly KCBS, but 5 tables of 3 judges each. (and 5 categories of entries)
Each table took a turn as the 'supreme' judges. They scored the appearance of each entry, and then sat while the other 4 table judged for taste & tenderness. The top 2 (or 3 if there was a tie) then went back to the Supreme table for the final scoring. It worked pretty well.
We were the Supremes for the 'open' entry. Anything goes for that one - as long as it was cooked outside on the festival grounds.
They did ribs, pulled pork, brisket, open and finally a dessert entry. We were busy little beavers down there munching away on everything.

It was fun and I learned a lot. But my stomach is still killing me. One of our open entries wasn't cooked all the way! Yikes..

Still sounds like you had a great time and what a great way to get a little learning experience behind the scenes.

Yep, sure did. We'll probably toss our hats in the ring next year. They don't do a very good job promoting it, so we'll have to keep our ears out. (and the organizer has my email addy and phone # now)
Very cool Squirt!
Thanks for the pics ;)
