Hey, BAM... I heard it too...
The drought/feed/pigs thing...
Of course, yes, it could be BS...
But, what I heard is that
the shortage will hit next year because of this year.
I dunno. Just sharing the "pig news" from pig country...
(Central Illinois ---
all over the radio this morning)
Might have to invest in a Guinee pig farm, I could cure Some Bacon Bites and charge everyone tripple 8) ;D ;D Seriously we are going to see a lot of prices raising. I have takin a 1% wage reduction the last three years and they just cut my health insurance to the basic plan instead of the super duper plan.
I sure hope I'm entitled when I turn 67 :(

Ill take your call,,,,,,,,,,,,over $8.00 a bushel for corn thats only bringing 20 to 30 bushel an acre and over $14.00 a bushel os beans thats producing less than last year and over twice the selling cost.
DISASTER! Mark my words
Oh ya last year we had a flood and still produced over 160 bushel an acre of corn
Do thew math,,,,,,,,,,,,,we ARE running outta feed!
I see it every day, the bins are empty
To make it even better we (humans) 70% of our diet is some sort of grain.
Im done now,,,,,,,,,,,Back to my corner 8)
Just said on the news here in Iowa that the shortage will mostly be in Europe and our prices will go up about 10%. I still may try to get a contract with the locker in Edgewood. Can't run out of bellies.
Geez Curt, with your doom and glum outlook we're going to be smoking pigeons and opossums at the next MWSO
No HOLD ON just a minute .... does this also predict that the malt or brewed beverages will be in short supply? :o You guys hoard your bacon ... I am filling the garage full of beer. ;)
Well at least I can get bacon next year ;D
Worldwide bacon shortage unavoidable? 'Hogwash,' says Canadian group

What he said!
One of my Dad's corn fields yielded 14 bushels per acre.
14..
140 is considered 'marginal'..
And their crop insurance doesn't cover drought. D'oh!
Isn't part of the problem that the government is diverting the corn for Ethanol. Then this creates a feed shortage and raises the feed prices. Causing hog farms to cut back on the amount of hogs they raise?
Everything but our paychecks is going up in price already. No matter how much farm subsidies the government provides if the dollar loses value then food will go up in price. They keep borrowing or printing more money making the problem worse IMHO.
Back in my corner now ;)

In a word, YES!
The current administration was asked to waive or at least decrease this year's allocation due to the rising cost. It was politely declined.
Don't get me started muebe. ;)

Talking with the neighbor they are getting 40-140 Bushel depending on the ground. There has been talk of the ethanol plants shutting down until supply comes back up. Texas has planted late crop corn to cash in on the high dollar corn. When folks talk about the "Farm Subsidies" You have to think about this. Farmer Joe contracted to the government 20,000 bushels of corn for $3.75 a bushel. Due to the drought he only produced 5,000 bushels. Now in order to fill the contract to the government, Farmer Joe has to PURCHASE 15,000 bushels of corn at $8-9.00 a bushel. Doesn't sound like a game I would want to play.
There won't be a shortage of pork. Well not for those of us with guns. Those folks that are against guns can pay the high prices. Those with guns can go shoot the wild hogs that is readily abundant most areas.
Ann saw this and honest this is what I was told.
Well mister it looks like you'll just have to order more buckboard cure and pick up more butt roasts for the freezer. And then to top it off she throws in a " I think the way things are going you should retire a bit early so you can concentrate more on hunting and fishing for us".
Now of course I gave her that " Oh, I'm sorry to hear that" look but I think that jig I was a dancing across the living room gave it away. ;D
I think I like this girl. Hope she keeps me around to feed the dogs. ::)
Dang Pat! She has my vote!
Ok not eating any grains. Feed my share to the hogs. But i can always make some bacon of sorts with deer and other game. Maybe chickens and turkeys. Who knows possibility is endless when you make your iwn meats. Their i also this big fat mean lady next door. No body would look for her. Lol! They better not stop my pork.

Sorry Middle East, we won't be sending you any corn or other grains next year. Drink your oil.

I think a new source of bacon has been discovered. ;D
We have a pig farm in North Las Vegas that only feeds their pigs scraps from local casinos.....lol...keeps the pork costs lower here.

Mike Rowe and Dirty Jobs did a show about that pig farm. Those pigs eat good from the casino's.

Would love to, but there's no wild hogs up here! Will have to make due with Canada goose, duck, and deer I guess. (I don't do the long travel for moose or caribou.)
Mark (in Ottawa)
Souunds like they need to head out to Texas. They got them wild ones running all over the place. No shortage there.
