Title: Monitoring the DBS
Post by: SmokinScott on April 02, 2007, 07:20:02 PM
Does anybody know of a way to to be able to monitor box temps and meat temps from the DBS on a computer or even better through e-mail.  Any help would be great.

SmokinScott,

I wrote Maverick asking for information on the wireless protocol to do exactly what you ask. Unfortunately, they were not able to help me. I have a 433 MHz receiver to look at the bit stream, but it is pretty complicated and not obvious what encoding protocol they are using (let alone the information protocol). The encoding does not look like Manchester, so I am having a hard time working with it.

This project is in the same league as my smoking: I do not have the answer and will drink adult beverages and experiment for 15 years to figure it out.  :D :D :D

The end game was a window on the PC (or TV watermark) that reported out the temps.

I don't know a lot about it but couldn't you setup a wireless web cam pointed at your DBS and maverick 73 then view it anywhere you have internet access?

Just a thought

That way we could all check in on how things are going on a smoke!

Give a whole new meaning to showing off your butt!  :o

And we could call you if we don't see the beer go by the monitor every 20 minutes or so.

Looks like he passed out again, must be time for another! ;D

Should work fine, as long as you have a "Firewall" installed!(http://www.emotipad.com/newemoticons/Eeeeeek.gif)(http://www.emotipad.com/newemoticons/ROFL.gif)

That would be a nice accessory. My weather station works on 433 MHZ, and the computer software that I have would be able to display the temperatures for the smoke period in graph form.

SmokinScott;
For now the only thing I can think of is to use a web cam, or security camera that can hook up to your PC or Mac, and focus the lens on your display.

Pretty impressive to have Ethernet connectivity in a package for $150. Bang-bang controller for the blower, but still a nice package.

Now, if we can punch a VPN tunnel to the smoker and transport jerky, O and I will be truly impressed...

what you need is the the Laser comm conversion utility.  use a high power 1.5 Ghz Laser thru the Jerky to a Laser Comm recepter that accepts 1.5 Ghz and converts that to standard IP packets to a internet router.  Then send those to a remote site with a 1.5 Ghz Laser Transmitter pointed to a magnetized plazma field of equal matter density and it should replicate some of the laser sent data.

hmm.  Maybe you need to neutralize the plasma aura of the transmitted material before lasing it.  Might ensure a better recombination of the resulting material properties.

IKW: I am sure we can try this when you arrive at Livermore. I will get them to retune the NIF to the right frequency....

Just use that burbonized confectionalization with sweat powderization to help fix that.  Or just try some Rum and Coke, that seems to fix most.
