Title: Do you ever feel lonely?
Post by: cingnut on April 18, 2007, 08:28:37 PM
I have posted 32 times to this board now.  I know I am a "newbie" and will be for some time...  But have you ever posted a post that you were absolutely sure would become "sticky" in a matter of days if not hours?

I am not a glory hound by any means, but I was SURE  a topic or two of mine would get responded to, if not, at the very least read!  LOL

I sometimes see a topic that has several hundred views and as many responses and I find myself saying... "HUH?"  LOL

This post is in jest of course...  I think it is interesting how some topics explode and others just die on the vine never to be read again, in fact I find myself going back to certain posts HOPING for a response that may enlighten or amuse me, and end up seeing that I am the only one pinging the "view" count.

Just the absent minded thoughts of a first time smoker waiting for that sweet spot so I can go to bed and leave the rest to his Bradley!

15 pounds of pork butt!  I stuck 2ea. 7.5 pound bone in beauties in the smoker at 5:45PM EST....  I changed the water and sprayed everything down with apple juice an hour or so ago....  Right now the ole' Maverick says that the smoker is holding steady at 205, and the butts are at 147!!

It is about 12:15AM EST now so I am reaching the end of my endurance for the evening, I plan to work from home tomorrow so I can pull these babies at approximately 190-195!  Hopefully I will have time for a few hour FTC with dinner guests arriving at around 6:00PM EST.

Keep your fingers crossed, and pray to the BBQ Gods for me........ my reputation depends on it!

Ya think I will burn it??

I keep hearing about this HUUUUUGE internal temp stall at 160-170....  Do you seriously think I will overshoot 190 if I sack out till 7:00AM or so???

Hi Cingnut

It really depends on the butt itself. Some take much longer than others so it's hard to say. If you check it at 7 am that will be what... 11 hours 15 minutes? I would think 2 - 7 lb butts would be more like 14 to 18 hours. It also depends on your temp. I do mine at 210 with the PID. I've had 2 small butts about 3.5 lbs each take 18 ours before. I wish I could help ya more.

Good Luck
Mike

Haha! i never feel lonely at this place cingnut!

Seriously though, i think some posts in general don't get any response as they may be a specific subject that the reader is not familiar with, and so will have little or no input for that post.

Other posts will receive more activity because the reader will find something they can relate to in that post, and respond accordingly.

There is also the fact that many posts get missed or overlooked, i must admit i miss quite a few new posts, i think it's just because this is a very busy forum with new posts springing up all the time
Anyway that's my view on things ;)

More importantly........i hope the butts turn out great, i'm sure they will, and pictures please, that will guarantee a response!  ;)

I read your posts and I think I have responded.  Not sure though.  Sometimes if I am in a hurry and it appears that help is not needed I do not respond, but I normally try to post at least a  ;)

I didn't mean to sound like I was petitioning for replies to my posts...LOL

I was just making a general statement/observation about how some topics seem to be off the charts with activity and others just disappear into obscurity.

I do note that the longer the thread goes on, the more likely the topic is to change throughout its life span, so word to the wise, don't dismiss a topic based on its subject line or its previous replies, you never know what you're going to get!

I was just getting ready to say something like that...the thread is usually fine until I get to it and ADD takes over my fingers. :D  My head is fine, it only affects my fingers.

So cignut.  Did it come out OK.  Not burned?

BTW, sleep deprivation does wonderful things to posts.  As does levels of inebriation.

Actually not burnt at all, in fact when I do butts again i think I will take the meat to 195 instead of 190, it was juicy and delicious, but slightly underdone to my taste, I like a firmer mouth feel and this meat was a bit soft for me.

With meat that has a lot of connective tissue, when you cook it low and slow, the higher you bring the internal meat temperature the "softer" or "tender" the meat will become.

Cingnut, your loved, really, no really  :D  :D  :D

Geez TT, that little guy under your tire remark got me into trouble.  ;) Usually when I laugh out loud and the wife comes over it is something a little different.   ;D  Pretty funny reply even if she didn't think so.  :D  :D

hmm

I normally rake mine out the back forty and dump it.  But I can see maybe:

1) Burry it with some tressure.
2) Douse it will pet odor removal then put it in your regular trash
3) Did I mention Burry it
4) put it in these Fat Trapper Bags and toss in the trash to decompose over generations in time
5) Feed it to a local Pig (anonyously of course)
6) Burry it with some perfume
7) Add it to a natural deomposiiton pet septic system
8) hmm

Good luck
