Title: Ongoing forum issues
Post by: LilSmoker on February 07, 2008, 01:36:39 AM
Hi all, hope everybody is ok?, haven't been around lately as i've had a few problems, and been very busy with work etc, that's life i guess  ::)

Anyway, thought i'd let you know, i sent some more mails regarding the forum, but this time no replies?, i have just sent another 5 minutes ago, so i'm optomistic of hearing something?

I was thinking of asking Bradley if we could take over the running of the forum in order to keep it all up to date and running smooth. However, if i remember right, Olds asked them the same thing a while back, and the answer was no?  :'(

It really doesn't take up much time to keep this kind of forum in order, so i'm a little surprised that it's been left to get to this stage?, especially as we all endorse how good the Bradley actually is?, and add to the fact that it's such a friendly and very informative community here, you would think somebody would be taking good care of it?

Anyway, if i hear anything i'll post right away

Regards all  LilSmoker (http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s62/Gitster59/Tip-Hat.gif)

Hi LilSmoker;

Glad to see you posting again. I saw you other post about not being able to smoke in a while. My area has been getting rain for four days. I hope it lets up soon. I have a brisket ready to go, and Canadian bacon planned for Sunday.

I appreciate you staying on this problem. I don't understand what is taking so long. This forum not only endorses how good the Bradley is, but I am sure this forum reduces a lot of tech support calls, which must be saving them a huge amount of money.

Welcome back LS.  Been missing that smiling mug of yours.  :)

I have to agree LS that this site is a value to Bradley and needs to be maintained a bit better. There is a wealth of informantion here that is shared and many sales have resulted from this forum. One would think it would be in Bradleys best interest to keep this forum running smooth.
Good to hear from you again and thanks for staying after them to fix the forum.  ;)

Good idea...we should have a couple of Mod's, and at least two Admin. They should be someone who has a history here, and who has a good head about them.

I can think of several qualified smokers (experts) to assume those positions... :)

I agree we should have some Mod's around. Although having said that there really hasn't been many problems here in the forums (thank goodness) with the exception of keeping the forum updated. I'm on the forum quit a bit and I do notice up to two hidden users from time to time. I'm not sure who they are of course but I assume admin.

Seeing as the site was down almost all day today I think something needs to be done. I'm behind you brother, let's get this forum up to date ASAP!!

I agree, but it is possible that it was down all day because someone was trying to fix it.

Hi all, well it does seem like somebody has tried to fix things up, but atm i don't think they were successful?

The preview still doesn't work, and now i notice blocks of text missing from the boards, and non hosted avatars still not working?

Maybe the site was down due to server problems?

I really hope they get on top of it soon, as it now seems even worse?

At the bottom of the page it says -

Powered by SMF 1.1 RC2

Which means, if I'm reading this correctly, that they are using a Release Candidate of the software and not a real release version.  It definitely should be updated if they are serious about maintaining a reliable board.  Perhaps it has been outsourced to Bangalore  >:( >:(

Are we back? Still seems somewhat abnormal now, blocks of text still missing from some boards and even a couple of days of posts missing...hmmm :-\

Phew!, hi everybody, obviously couldn't post because of the obvious problems we've had here.

Well the good news is i have been in fairly regular contact today with Kam, he is the IT manager at bradley, he is now very aware of the issues, and is going to look into getting things sorted this week (http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s62/Gitster59/eusa_clap.gif)

I was trying to figure out a way of letting everybody know, as the only member i had contact with was Mike (Consiglieri)

Anyway, at least for now we can use the forum, and we now know that things are being looked at. Yesterdays problem was caused by a data base error.

So........hopefully soon we'll be back to our former glory  ;)

Haha! yeah it has become a bit of a "never ending story" but hopefully we will have the happy ending that we all want (http://smileys.on-my-web.com/repository/Happy/happy-047.gif)

I've just had another mail from Kam, and he says on Friday (15th Feb) 10 am PST, they will update the data base to a new version, in the hope that this will fix the problem.

I would think there'll be some down time, so just wanted to give everybody some advanced warning. (http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s62/Gitster59/Wink.gif)

If i receive any further info, i'll post it here.

LS

Good to see them doing something for sure. The last couple of days I've seen a couple different administrators logged in which is good to see for sure. Hopefullly they can get the issues resolved, then continue to keep the forum updated so this great resource is not lost.

Thanks for keeping on top of things LS. The site was starting to get so I didn't bother with it. Between my net provider and site problems I was going crazy not to mention this Vista garbage on the new laptop. >:(
Sometimes I miss the days of when you flicked the switch, the light turned on - end of program. :D

Thanks for the word, LS.

To the rest of you, if there's a need to communicate if/when this site is down, the recipe site provides the ability to email or PM members who are registered there.  Hopefully, we won't have to go that route.

On my end, I've noticed that it has been running smoother and faster. Now if they can get the preview, and avatars working again, that would be good.

Thanks for the kind words guys, no big deal though, just a few mails and a bit of communication  ;)

Just like everybody else, i realise how special this place is, and i hate it when things don't work properly  ;D

Anyway, i'm keeping my fingers crossed that it will get fixed on Friday (http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s62/Gitster59/Good-Luck.gif)(http://www.mysmiley.net/imgs/smile/evilgrin/evilgrin0039.gif)

Wow I missed some issued on the boards.  Hopefully it gets worked out.  LS  thanks for staying on top of it.   One of my projects is all about Collaboration and I have a good team that gets notices within seconds of an issue and they jump of it.  We are right on issues and make sure we know more than our consumers.   Hopefully Bradley steps up like that.  Yeah, sure there are times things go wrong and processes break, but its learning to not let that happen again.

LS you are great to help us get this done.   Looking for a new job.  I got openings in IT.  Course requires relocation and we don't pay for that.  :)

Lets see how this goes.

Yes they have indeed, the new versions and dates are shown at the foot of the page (http://smileys.on-my-web.com/repository/Others/others-009.gif)

Our old forum version was way out of date, and fairly corrupt imo  :'(

Anyway all seems just fine now, the preview and avatars etc are all working, and i just hope it's looked after now, and kept up to date.

Kam kept to his word and got us fixed, so that's great news (http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s62/Gitster59/goodjob.gif)

Think i should mail him and tell him thanks from all of us  ;)

Has anybody noticed if the "notify" feature is working correctly.  I don't seem to be getting notification emails on the the threads I've subscribed to. I've had some issues with my ISP mail server in the last few days, so I'm not sure if it is on my end or not.

Is anyone experiencing problems with this forum. For the last 3 days it's been running extremely slow. It's acting the same way it did prior to the problems we had before the upgrade. I've logged on using 3 different machines, and I've tried disabling the firewall and neither helped. This is the only site that I am having this experience with.

For my machine this is the slowest this forum has ever been. At least this time the site doesn't time out, and the page will eventually load. All pages are extremely slow, and the one with pictures are even slower.

I tried to send Bradley an email using the address they give for reporting problems [email protected] but I recieved a Delivery Status Notification (Failure) response. I'll got to their web site and report it.

Timed out a couple of times but it did it on some other forums also so I think I have a problem with the server. Frigging MTA has been horrible up here. We call them the constipated net service cause they sort of just "Go When They Can".  ;D :D
