May seem like an odd request but I have just been for a walk on the beach on a wet and miserable evening here on the Isle of Man, an island situated midway between Ireland and England and several thousand miles away from Long Island, New York!
I have found a "message in a bottle" which looks very genuine and appears to have been thrown in the sea off Long Island on Christmas Day 2007 and turned up on this side of the pond nearly 4 months later in a coke bottle.
Without giving exact details away the address is given as Radcliff Drive, East Norwich, N.Y. 11732
Before I go to the bother of replying could anyone in that area tell me whether the place actually exists!!
Many thanks. :)
Manx,
According to mapquest, there is a Radcliffe Dr in East Norwich, NY. Be sure to let me know how it turns out.....it has the beginings of a great Kevin Costner film :P
Very interesting Manx. Please keep us posted.
Cool. Seems to exist:

Wow, thanks for such quick responses folks. :)
Intend to drop the lady concerned a quick note, will post back to let you know the outcome.
Thanks once again.
That is really kool!! Can't wait to hear what happens!! :)
QUICK!! Throw it away ManX ...... I can foresee another chick flick my wife will drag me to.... :o :o ;)
:o Wet and miserable evening in the Isle of Man.......impossible, lovely place :) :)
Thats cool manx, keep us posted on how it turns out.
BTW
I threw a bottle in the river once, got a letter back from JD and said to stop drinking lol
nepas
Manx, That is a totally awesome find and most probably wouldn't have picked it up in the first place.
Probably should keep the tosser of the bottle's identity a secret. The polution police would probably throw them in jail for littering the ocean. Of course you would get a medal for cleaning it up. :D
Interesting...
QuoteWet and miserable evening in the Isle of Man.......impossible, lovely place
It is the most lovely place, just that we have had more than our fair share of wet, windy and miserable recently!! Nice that you are a fan yul. ;) :D
I now have a cunning plan to get pucks for my B.S carriage free from the U.S, they can be thrown in the sea off Long Island and turn up on my door step some 3 months later! Just have to plan well ahead and make sure they are well vacuum sealed! ;) ::) ;D
Quoteprobably wouldn't have picked it up in the first place.
Beachcombing is one of my favourite pastimes, it is amazing what turns up and past finds have included old world war II mines, part of an RAF sonar device that helicopters dip in the sea to look for submarines and a corpse!! (didn't take that home!!) :o
I hope you didn't take the mines home either. Wouldn't want to miss ya Manx. ;)
Quotehope you didn't take the mines home either.
Nah, the ones I found were always ones that had been defused. Occasionally a local trawler would pick up a live one in the nets! :o
To bad some of those BMW's didn't wash up on shore awhile back when the floods were happening Manx. :D

Come on Manx...what's the poop? (Geez Manx...I'm a chick...we don't wait...)!!!! :)
QuoteCome on Manx...what's the poop? (Geez Manx...I'm a chick...we don't wait...)!!!!
Presume "poop" is the same as "skeet" around here ...... gossip!? ;) :D
No real news yet, I have sent off a letter with a bit of info about the Isle of Man together with my address and email address and hope for a reply in the next couple of weeks. Just hope it's not some "bunny boiler" ;D ::) :o
There was a telephone number but part of it is obliterated.
Will keep you posted......... chicks are obviously the same the world over!! :D :D
Yeah...we are!! Kinda comforting isn't it!!! :)
Looking forward to hearing if this is all for real ... should be interesting manxman.
LaQ, so what is the poop on global comfort ::)

You're idea of comfort and mine must be two different things ;D ;D
Oh...come on Duck...we're not thaaattt bad!! :)
OK....whatever you say, LQ. :-\ :)
Naw....I love women.....I believe every man should own one ;) :o ;D Now before you go sicking NOW on me, please know I was only joking. To be quite honest, while I razz on my wife all the time, truth be told I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for her. She has kept me going through all of the hard times and has stuck beside me whatever may come. I couldn't do it without her and know that it in my heart.
Is she still looking over my shoulder??????????????
Funny Duck...you're off the hook (for now)...OnTrack...dude...need a recipe? :)
I remain, drinking at a distance..... :D :D :D

Consistency is a benchmark for me......... 8)
For those of you that asked for the outcome of this tale this is the email I got from "Natalie in Long Island", the bottom line is that the note is genuine!!

Hello Paul,
This very amazing, I just got back from Europe my self, I was in Greece. I had a lot of mail to go through, and I saw your envelope, I probably received it earlier, but I was away, so this is what happened!!
I have to say- I was very surprised when I saw a letter from Europe in my mailbox!! I could not understand who it could be from??? The when I opened it and read it! I That is truly amazing that you found my" message in a bottle" !! I was so surprised, and how organized you were, with the map, and a copy of my actual note- WOW!! I told my friends, and they couldn't believe it as well, and then I called my daughter Lexy,(she was at her Dad's) and she was so happy, she "wants to go there and meet you"!! Her reaction was very cute.
This is what happened, Lexy and I were taking a walk on the beach, in Long Island, close to Jones Beach, it is in the South Shore .I live on the N. Shore .So we saw an old bottle and decided to write something in it and send it into the ocean .I can't believe the old bottle made it!! Then I found - I think it was make up- because I could not find a pen- that is why it is soo messy, and I wrote, then we threw it onto the water. I didn't really think anyone would ever get it, so I wrote very simple, but to the point. We actually wrote 2, because we were so excited, we love to do things like that- adventurous!! For some reason, it just intrigues me that someone could find a letter from us, years from now, or months, and look! It happened!! Please say hello to your boys, and tell them- yes!! It is a genuine"message in a bottle"!! We hope to hear back from you- Paul- are you the actual one who found it?? Or did your boys find it?? All the best to you.
NATALIE

I reckon the distance involved was around 3500 miles.......... amazing!!
Thanks for the follow up. This is amazing, but now I'm curious as to when she put the bottle in the ocean. It would be interesting to know if it tooks days, months or years.
Againg, thanks for the feed back.
QuoteIt would be interesting to know if it tooks days, months or years.
It was put in the sea on Christmas Day 2007, by my estimation it took about 14 weeks +/- a couple of weeks to travel the 3500 miles "as the crow flies" or about 1.5 mph!! ::)
I would imagine it has probably travelled a fair bit more than the most direct route though. The plastic coke bottle was weighed down with a small stone, it would be a combination of current and wind that bought it to our shores.
Our prevaling winds are south westerly and New York is roughly south west of us. Not sure about the currents though?
That is an amazing thing to happen Manx. :) :) :)
Manxman;
You should hire a screenwriter and make this into a movie. :)
QuoteYou should hire a screenwriter and make this into a movie.
Big decision is who should play the lead role........... George Clooney? Tom Cruise? Shrek? ;) :D
An even bigger decision is choice of leading lady!! ::) 8) ;D

Strange, that's exactly what she said!! ;) :D And she came up with the Shrek idea! :-[
I am often mistaken for Tom C if you decide to go that direction :D :D :D
Only if you are not standing side by side. You are a little taller than he is. ;D
QuoteYou are a little taller than he is.
Most people are a little taller aren't they!!?? ;) :D
Given I am 6 foot 6 inches tall maybe Tom C isn't such a good idea! ;D Looks like WCK is in the frame now in any case. ;)
:D :D :D there ya go! 8)
How about Jennifer Garner or Jessica Alba to play the lady....hell Id even go watch a love movie that either one of them were in. ;D

Hahaha.... that wouldn't be fair TT, after all you are LQ's agent!! ;) :D
QuoteDoes it appear to be a recent photo?
Yes, but I did use a bit of poetic licence in the previous post in that the pic was of her and her 10 year old daughter (who my 10 year old son thinks is lovely!), the swimming costume was not what you would call skimpy and the pic was taken by her partner! ::) ::)
Joking apart we have had a few nice email exchanges and it is strange to think it all started from a message in a bottle crossing the pond! My two young lads are fascinated by it all. :)

Well, yeah.....but I also live by the #1 most important rule of being a male (though, I admit it doesn't totally apply here), "Once you see one woman nekkid.....you want to see the rest of them". :D
QuoteI'm thinking I need bigger something else!!!
Tell us more LQ!!?? ;) :D
I can be brave, I am a LONG way away!!
Quote"Once you see one woman nekkid.....you want to see the rest of them".
Mmmmm ........ you obviously haven't seen some of the women around here TT. And the girls say the same thing about some of the blokes. ::) ::)

Well, I can cure them of that....and they can probably cure me of my affliction with it as well. :D
Not really what I wanted to post for my 1000th, but it'll do. ;D ;D ;D
Tiny, You can go over the top on the Post Count Thread! :) This is an interesting story. I have heard of these things happening but always wondered 8)
I think the entire story is very kool...just think of the chances of that bottle ever making it to land and that whomever found it would actually contact the "bottle thrower"!! :) Keep us up to date on your correspondence Manx...:)
