Hi trannyguy,

Welcome to the forum.

Those are very large Inconsistencies, between the two temperature sensors. You can expect some variation, such as plus or minus 20 degrees, but it shouldn't be this large.

When you recorded these results, was your smoker empty, or were you smoking food, at the time? All cooking devices have hot spots, though not as large as you have recorded. Where was your third-party probe located, in relation to the Bradley temperature sensor? Then next time you record your results place the third-party probe close to the Bradley sensor.

If you were smoking meats, and your third-party probe was too close to the meat, that could cause a much lower reading. This could be 30 to 75 degrees lower than the actual cabinet temperature. When meat is cooking, a lot of moisture is evaporated, which lowers the surrounding temperature. Also, the meat acts as a heat sink, so that lowers the temperature close to the meat.

Make sure that your Bradley sensor is clean. I use a green Scotch-Brite pad to clean it off. But with the temperature discrepancies you are experiencing, it won't resolve that issue, but could help.

If, theses suggestions do not help, you may have a bad sensor. Contact Bradley Customer Service.

General Discussions / Smoker running colder than it ...
Last post by trannyguy - August 28, 2024, 08:31:37 PM
My 6 rack digital smoker is running colder than it shows. When it shows 230 it is only actually running at 180. I verified this with a good quality over thermometer. When it shows 300 it is only running at 230. Just wondering your thoughts on what might be the problem? I'm thinking the temp sensor is possibly faulty.

Sausage Making / Re: Whats a good beef/pork rat...

A 50/50 blend of beef and pork can work well. The combination of beef and pork can offer a nice balance of flavors and textures, creating a delicious and juicy product. When making summer sausage or sticks, it's important to consider the fat content in the meat mixture. It's better to use a combination of lean meat and fat to achieve the desired texture and flavor.

Also you may want to consider the seasonings and spices you use in your sausage recipe to complement the beef and pork blend.

Quote from: RFT on August 22, 2024, 09:28:21 AMYes,  I just got a digital 4 rack and have had the original black Bradley for 15 years.  Today I wanted to cold smoke cheese only to find out I needed a bypass plug for the new digital generator to work.  I grabbed my old smoke generator and its chuggin along working fine.

Thanks for posting this. This information will definately help others.

Quote from: Markham Smoker on December 31, 2023, 08:47:54 AMHi all,

Does anyone know if the smoke generator from the digital can be swapped out with the "Original" type generator?

I have a digital with upgraded heater element and an Auber PID.
My smoke generator crapped out so i would like to swap it with the " original" type generator..

thx! Kurt

Hi Barkfan2,

An E1 code indicates that there is a problem  with the small wire between generator and tower. If it is an E1 error, unplug and re-plug it a couple of times or even unplug and reverse it, it will usually help. While unplugging and re-plugging, check the connectors for debris. Use some fine steel wool to clean the connectors of any possible manufacturing residue.

Also; while the generator is on and the "E1" error is displayed and beeping, check the connection by wiggling one side of the connection up and down and left to right, and then the other end. If the "E1" message temporally goes away while you were wiggling one side, you need a new sensor connector.

If none of the above actions work, the E-1 error may be a bad connection to the temp sensor the connection is located in the back of the smoke tower remove the back of the smoker and check the connection.

If the display code is an "E" error, that is a whole different problem. There is something wrong with the advance system. There is a problem with the connection between the motor arm and the micro switch. Bradley has upgraded the micro switch system that operates the digitals, so my prior knowledge of how to fix this is outdated. If it is an "E" error, you can open the generator, and give it a good cleaning, using an electrical contact cleaner, to clean the area of the micro switch. Or it might require and adjustment of the motor arm.

If this does not work contact Bradley Technical Support.

The Digital Smokers (BTDS76P & BTDS108P) / Error "E" light and beep
Last post by Barkfan2 - August 20, 2024, 11:57:15 AM
At the end of the first smoke, an "E" code started flashing on the wood feeder and it started beeping. I replaced the short wire connecting the two boxes, but it still continues. Any suggestions out there in smokerland?

Quote from: TedEbear on July 08, 2024, 02:20:32 AMNo, you can install it either direction and it will work the same way.

If you have a multimeterslope game, compare the resistance of that new element to the old one if you want to see how worn the old element was.  A new element will read around 30-32 ohms. You can verify that direction doesn't matter by switching the leads and you'll see that the reading is the same either way.

I think so
