Chez is da man on this advice, Val.  Many of us have had just a few hours of use out of the batteries that come with the ET-73.  I put in a good set of Energizers and that bunny ran for dozens of hours before I decided to change the batteries <i>before</i> they probe went haywire.  I'm sure a set of Duracells would give you comparable results.
