My winter garden is winding down but I still have several green tomatoes. My Grandmother use to fry them and they were great.....However I have lost her recipe.

Anyone here have a proven recipe for pan fried green tomatoes?

Thanks

I pan fry mine in a cast iron skillet. Just dredge them in seasoned cormmeal and let them brown up. Flip once and let them drain on a paper towel.
The fight isn't over until the winner says it is.

I never had a recipe, just dipped them in seasoned buttermilk, shake off the excess, then into well seasoned cormeal and fry in a cast iron pan.

If you want a heavy coating you can do the three step - first into flour (seasoned), then into beaten egg/milk, then into well seasoned corm meal and fry.

Eat with hot sauce/Tabasco and or a few drops of fresh lemon juice.
I like animals, they taste good!

Paula Dean's recipe looks really good, and I may try that. I fry them the way my mother did. Slice them 1/4 inch thick, dip them into beaten egg yokes, coat with flour seasoned with Lawry's Seasoning salt and black pepper, and pan fry in about 1/4 inch of canola oil (she would use Crisco Shortening).
