Isn't part of the problem that the government is diverting the corn for Ethanol. Then this creates a feed shortage and raises the feed prices. Causing hog farms to cut back on the amount of hogs they raise?
In a word,  YES!

The current administration was asked to waive or at least decrease this year's allocation due to the rising cost.  It was politely declined.

Don't get me started muebe. ;)

Everything but our paychecks is going up in price already. No matter how much farm subsidies the government provides if the dollar loses value then food will go up in price. They keep borrowing or printing more money making the problem worse IMHO.

Back in my corner now ;)

Talking with the neighbor they are getting 40-140 Bushel depending on the ground. There has been talk of the ethanol plants shutting down until supply comes back up. Texas has planted late crop corn to cash in on the high dollar corn. When folks talk about the "Farm Subsidies" You have to think about this. Farmer Joe contracted to the government 20,000 bushels of corn for $3.75 a bushel. Due to the drought he only produced 5,000 bushels. Now in order to fill the contract to the government, Farmer Joe has to PURCHASE 15,000 bushels of corn at $8-9.00 a bushel. Doesn't sound like a game I would want to play.

There won't be a shortage of pork. Well not for those of us with guns. Those folks that are against guns can pay the high prices. Those with guns can go shoot the wild hogs that is readily abundant most areas.
Bacon is the Crack Cocaine of the Food World.

Be careful about calling yourself and EXPERT! An ex is a has-been, and a spurt is a drip under pressure!

Ann saw this and honest this is what I was told.
Well mister it looks like you'll just have to order more buckboard cure and pick up more butt roasts for the freezer. And then to top it off she throws in a " I think the way things are going you should retire a bit early so you can concentrate more on hunting and fishing for us".
Now of course I gave her that " Oh, I'm sorry to hear that" look but I think that jig I was a dancing across the living room gave it away.  ;D
I think I like this girl. Hope she keeps me around to feed the dogs.  ::)

Mike Rowe and Dirty Jobs did a show about that pig farm.  Those pigs eat good from the casino's.

Would love to, but there's no wild hogs up here! Will have to make due with Canada goose, duck, and deer I guess. (I don't do the long travel for moose or caribou.)

Souunds like they need to head out to Texas. They got them wild ones running all over the place. No shortage there.
