What's the difference, if any?
Picnic roast was 7.32# and i cut the fat cap off , layered with Jan's rub and overnight in fridge.  Forgot some things so back at walmart today and picked up 6# pork shoulder butt roast and just got it rubbed up and in the Bradley Smoker with the other one.
4 hours of maple pucks loaded - first time using this flavor.
Is there gonna be any noticeable differences in the cooking of or eating these?  Should i keep them separate or will it matter to combine the finished products.  Gonna make some carolina sauce and some kc style to have on hand.

Any pointers or thoughts?  Photos to come soon...

In the simplest terms, think of your arm and shoulder. The butt is more or less analogous to the shoulder blade area (and is actually called pork shoulder blade roast) while the picnic comes from the upper arm and socket area (called pork shoulder arm picnic with the shank or pork shoulder arm roast without). The picnic is more muscular and many feel it makes better roasts. Picnic might take longer to cook to pulling temp (or maybe not).

Mixing the product to serve together is fine.
