Obtained 2 racks (about 6 lbs) of babyback.  Thicker on the ends.  Cut thick ends and placed on rack 1, the remainder on rack 2.  Used Iceman's rub and smoked rack 1 for 4 1/2 hours and rack 2 for 3 1/2 hours.  Foil, towel, and into microwave to rest for 30 minutes on rack 2 (running out of time for dinner).  After 30 minutes applied Iceman's sauce, put in a pan, covered with foil and baked at 350 for 30 minutes.  Rack 1 foil, towel, and into microwave to rest for 2 1/2 hours.  Sprayed both racks with apple juice multiple times during the process.

Result - Rack 2 very tasty and juicy, but somewhat tough.  Rack one inspected and very tender and juicy after resting.  Currently in fridge for dinner in a couple of days.

Wild did you remove the membrane off the ribs.If not thats the reason for the tuffness. If so then a lil longer in the heat possible 1 or so more hours should have done the trick.Lots of folks forget the all important membrane.Make it tough and chewie. ciya ;)

I put mine in the oven for one hour at 400f and then baste them with a sweet and sour 5 spice Chinese concoction. Hot smoke for 2 hours and they are wonderfull, fall right off the bone.
BTW this method does not require removing the membrane, it gets cooked off/softened in the oven.

Yes, I did remove the membrane.  The tough rack was because not enough time in the foil.  The other rack was perfect.  Fell off the bone after reheating in the oven in foil and apple spray.  We were in a rush with the tough rack.  My wife had a fasting blood test the next day, so they did not rest in the foil and towel as long since we were getting close to her cut-off time for partaking of food.  I was very pleased with the result.  I did learn that just a little rub goes a long way.
