Ok, I am smoking a couple of chickens for the second time in as many weeks.  I read somewhere you should rotate the top and bottom chicken about halfway through to even out the cooking.  My independent and highly unscientific evaluation has revieled no significant difference in the temperature of the top and bottom chicken.

Do you guys switch half way through?  I was thinking I could preserve a little more heat and shorten cooking time if I didnt bother and just kept the door closed for the whole time.

Thanks for the input!

If your using the two top shelves it shouldn't be a problem.  Leave the door shut[:D][:D].

Some say BBQ is in your blood, if thats true my blood must be BBQ sauce.

Depending on the size of the chickens, I usually get two chickens on each tray. As Jeff stated, if you are using the top two shelves, I wouldn't bother rotating the chickens.

Jeff si correct,

I don't see much of a change in the top two shelves either.  I only rotate when using the bottom shelves and depending on what type of meat.  You will effect the process better by just leaving the door shut.

I'm a side-by-side guy myself.  Never cooked chicken over-under before.

As a basic rule, if all my trays have equal sized/same kind of meat, I rotate them around.  If I have larger pieces, those go on lower racks than the smaller pieces, as this would give you the best shot of having all done at the same time.

Thanks Guys,

Next time, both on top.  On a side note I am sitting here, eating some cheeze and home made keilbassi, surfing the smoker forum.  Life is good.
