just wondering if there is a generic time frame for smoking pork butts. is it like 2 hours per pound just to give me some sort of an idea.

1.5-2 hours per lb is the general rule.  However, I've had an 8lb butt take less than 12 hours and others of the same weight take 17 hours.  Cook to an internal temp of 190-200*F.

Thanks Thats what I figured. I will just kick back and relax and wait and wait and wait. Lol

It's temperature, not time that rules here but you can usually guess about 1.5 hours per pound at cabinet temp of 200-225o to get to an IT of 195-200o.  Having said that, we've had cooks range from under 10 to over 20 hours on a 8-9 pound butt.  It's done when it's done - use the thermometer and enjoy the ride.
