What is the best way to improve temp control

I have original,no modifications, 6 rack digital purchased in 2011.  Use it all seasons unless snow is too deep to get to it.  Have over cooked some things but never had to toss any due to problems with smoker.  Low and slow as members of this forum advised me when I logged in.
