Won't complain too much since you are further north but we've been getting several fresh inches each day the last few days in Pennsylvania. Is it spring yet?

Iceman, you have my absolute respect for living in those conditions and I know that other members live in very cold climates. What are some of your survival techniques like cars a batteries. How long do you venture outside. Give us the inside scoop.

Brad

We always keep one car in the heated garage just in case. The other trucks stay outside and plugged in. They have block heaters and battery heat blankets and seem to start okay. We heat the house with two direct vent 60,000 BTU heaters that double as a gas fireplace. Natural gas. They will still heat when the power goes out by using a heat powered fan to move the air around. We always keep a gen set ready in the winter in the heated garage so it will start easy then we just put it outside and switch power over. At least that way we can run the well and get warm water if needed. I have a pantry that is well stocked at all times because we do get snowed it at times. Ann calls it the "Mini Mart" Plenty of rum and cola  :D No need to worry about stuff in the freezer. We just put it outside.
About the only thing that worries me is trying to get the dogs to go out and do the duty thing. They don't like the minus temps. Arctic survival gear is in all vehicles in case of break downs and no one ever leaves without a cell phone even if it's just to go to the post office. It's not really to bad. I miss walks outside when the temps get to low but theres always plenty to do in the shop or work on the house projects or just plain goof off and cook up a storm. With the new smoke house I can even smoke in minus temps. I have heat in it now and satellite TV along with the mini bar and fridge. (it saves trips to the house) ::) ;D
I'll try to get some pics posted soon. Still have to wait till spring to get the siding on the smokehouse.

Iceman, thanks for your comments. It was interesting. There are a fair amount of Bradley forum members in Alaska and they have decided to live there with all the extra challenges. From what I understand they like it and that is OK with me and I respect it. More power to the all of you.
