Hi, everyone!   Mr and I have been out camping for the past two weeks.  I am sure we have missed out on a lot of stuff.
Although we did not smoke any food this time out, we did a lot of cooking in our Dutch ovens:  cinnamon rolls, biscuits and gravy, etc.  We even did a deep dish pizza!
The pizza crust was the standard recipe in the Kitchen Aid mixer book.
Here it is baking in the oven:

Here is the finished pizza:

Out of the oven - you can see where it did not come out as easily as we had hoped:

A slice for good measure:

Good eating, though.  Next time we plan to brush some butter on the crust before it bakes to make it more golden.
Oh, and here is a picture of the beast after two weeks of camping:

Needless to say, she was ready to come home and rest up.  :):):):):)

Awesome Seemores,
Looks are everything and frankly, doesn't look bad at all.  Taste is what really counts.

This does look good. I may have to dig out my cast iron dutch oven; I haven't used it in years.

According to my thinking, dutch oven cooking deserves its own board!! From your post, it looks like you know your way around cast iron, Seemore! Is the cooking table  aluminum? What's the max number of ovens that you've stacked on it? Do you use wind screens? I'm working with a local trail cook to design "the perfect dutch oven table" and always looking for feedback from experienced cookers.........

P.S.
Just picked up a complete Griswold 'American #8' wafflemaker in great shape for $10 :o ....one of my best cast iron finds in quite a while! :)

I have not done much Dutch oven cooking, but a friend has a table like that he puts 2 big 17in Dutch Oven's on. Say's he does a real good cowboy breakfast with biscuits in one and a Egg, Bacon, potato mix in the other. I would sure like to try it sometime.

You should try it. It's a lot of fun. It's the original "Set It and Forget It". To make you cooking more pleasant, purchase a book or search the internet. The recipes often include how many coals you will need on top and often those that are needed on the bottom.

Don't know about the "set and forget'.  Don't think my model comes with that mode.  Or maybe I'm just dutch oven challenged or sumthin.  My last go around I had to burn out the deritus (nice PC word for a bunch of burnt crap) that had formed.  I guess I need to get one of those books that Habs is talking about.  My Dad gets a kick of my dutch oven failures - he cooks in his quite a bit!  and we are kinda serious and competitive when it comes to outdoor cooking!

Here's a few book suggestions.....

'The Best Basic & Easy Recipes of Chuck Wagon Cooking' which I believe I got from Ned Larson 909/928-4425
'Old Fashioned Dutch Oven Cookbook' by Don Holm (Good luck finding this old cookbook, but try Caxton Printers, LTD out of Caldwell, Idaho)
'Original Cowboy Cookbook' by "Wild Wes" Medley 308/485-4284

BUT if there is only one book that you have in your stable, make it 'The Oregon Trail Cookbook' from Morris Publishing 308/236-7888   It is the 'Smoke & Spice' of dutch oven cooking!
