Sorry about that mistake, MW......We ARE Equal Opportunity hunters here!! [:D][:D][8D]

P.S. to WTF....That trophy in the glass case is a "yellow belly crawling lilly livered PETA wacko". We are infested by them at times so they allow us aerial hunting permits to make cleanup easier...Not much sport, but necessary for population control[;)][:D] (Actually, the guy is "Larry", a pretty cool local helping put in new glass!)

Andy

Where is the fly tying desk? Got to have a fly tying desk in Alaska!!! I figure as a fisherman...you got to hit the salmon runs with a fly rod once in a while!! that is my dream trip...fly fished all over Colorado and the carribean...one day will hook up a couple of alaskan salmon on my fly rod...These colorado stockers are nice...but nothig like a sea run salmon for a good fight...then back to the water it goes to make more!!

I am in the process of finishing my basement...it will come with a 12 ft long bar....keg mister included...a view of mount royal...goes up to 12,000 ft....and a fly tying desk that will probably be close to 8 ft long...a man has to have a hobby...and has to have a beer to do his hobby. I have always figured if you can't enjoy a beer with your hobby...what is the use of having a hobby!!

Isn't it awesome to live in gods country?? 15 inches of new powder...just waiting for me!! We got three seasons where I live....Ski season...mud season(run off)...fishing season...just about like alaska!![;)] but we don't have the big salmon.

Kummok

No fly tying desk Andy...at least not yet[;)] I leave that to my son-in-law when he comes up each summer! Besides, there's too many guns taking up space right now to add any more hobbies. Building a private museum this year if things go as planned. Then I'll be able to move all the gun collection and other collectible "stuff" to the museum, freeing up space for new toys[:D][:D] Museum will also look out on Bay/mountains/glaciers from the upper level of new building w/ shop/garage below....need space to store and work on boat, quads, snowmachines, old motorcylces, etc.

Sounds like you also have a piece of God's Country...there's a LOT of it out there and Alaska, puuuurty as it is, doesn't have the corner on grandeur. Not too long ago we were looking at 20 acres in waaaay northern Montana. It was timbered piece on a hill with a small open pasture looking out across the Tobacco Valley to 90 mile long Lake Koocanusa and the West Kootenai Mts....elk herd passed through it and flocks of wild turkey wouldn't move outta the way of my noisy Ford PSD! Then there's the Yucatan Peninsula, The Jaspers, Snake River Canyon, and the......well, suffice it to say that God IS the Master World Builder**!! [:D][:D]

MW:
http://www.homeralaska.org/relocation.htm Come on up, there's still lot's of room, but bring a source of income because the work opportunties come and go[xx(] Not a problem for someone who doesn't mind hard work and sacrifice for a year or two. I shoveled herring from the holds of fishing boats years ago until firefighting in the Interior started paying well.

The white duck is called an "Old Squaw" and it's in its winter plumege (sp?) Got to be honest though, I was funning with you....I didn't hunt them[;)] They were a gift to my dad from a local biologist. They are native species and are hunted up at the head of the Bay...guys go in to the closest safe harbor in their fishing boats, then take small boats up the estuary fingers or four-wheelers along the beach to their duck shacks to hunt these things. I've never developed a taste for duck so I don't hunt them. Could be like salmon to some folks though....maybe I just never tasted it cooked or smoked right?!?![:)]

Unless you really enjoy the cruise boats, I wouldn't do that again. We had a MUCH better time the week & 1/2 preceding compared to the week on the boat.

All the boat ports are "Vegas-style" and don't really give you a true sense of the area. The "excursions" they offer are touristy and WAY overpriced. You can manage to set up your own at a fraction of the cost if you do a little homework.

Some things are expensive no matter what, but when you realize these people only have a 4 month window to make their money on 12 months of maintenance, it makes sense. Car rental=$1000.00/week. You can stay at Fleabag Bob's Motor Inn with COLOR TV for $175.00 a night, or spend $225.00 for the Hilton.

Then again, the boat ain't cheap either. Once you do the math, we were paying $650.00 a day to be on the boat. Plus $3.50 a beer![:(!] Even in the casino! Pop was a bargain, only $1.75.[:(!] Yes we could have saved some money & got a lesser room, but I can't think for the life of me how I would be able to stand 7 days staying in those closet sized interior "rooms".

What also amazed me was the people in AK. They're the largest group of courteous, kind & helpful people I think I've ever been around. In 2-1/2 weeks of being up there, I interacted with one person I would label an asshole.

You won't regret it.....
