Its that time of year The hunters are chomping at the bit to get in the timber and put some backstraps on the table. Thought I would remind everyone to save one of them backstraps for VCB.

...But they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down the stairs.

$400 is steep!! I usually get buy with a few logs of sausage and a few Hams and Turkey's strategically delivered to local farmers. That's for the gun season. For the rest I just drive up to Mom's and pluck a few Does. Last X-mas eve I counted 38 deer within 75 yards of my stand and I was driving down the road with the family in the van. Momma wouldn't let me get the Muzzle loader out of the back. It was Christmas Eve.

I walk out on the deck and sit in a chair with a hot cup of coffee to hunt usually ;D

or take a cooler and a couple of lawn chairs in the back of the pick up and go to
a buddy's farm...

I know what you mean. If the land owner comes by my machine shop and says "can you fix/make this" the answer is always yep...

Man you took some excellent steak meat and made canadian bacon with? That looks good but that is the second best cut of meat from a deer. The first is the hanging tender inside the rib cage. I just could not do that to my deer, just to good of meat. Just my opinion but glad you like it that way.

Ahhh but when you have friends that like to hunt but don't want to keep the deer, and you eat 5-6 deer a year. You can afford to to turn a couple into Canadian Bacon.
