Hot again

Up to today the weather has been wonderful this past week. In fact I've been able to drive the Midget during the day. Now it is hot as all heck. I was going to turn my compost pile to restack it and add one last dose of blood meal to it, but not now.

Me too, it is in the low 50s here and I cant enjoy the yard well enough.

Been hot here also. I got sunburnt when I went to deer camp the otherday. Geez it was hot. But it really doesn't get cold here to start.

Hope the weather changes for you Olds so you and that Midget can spend some time together. Cool day, top down, sounds fun. CRG

This compost pile started out as only a ground tree. All carbon. Not good. I add blood meal and other items for the nitrogen.

This compost pile is very enhanced. There are now earth worms in it. It consists of the following.
Ground up Oak Tree
Blood Meal
Bone Meal
Green Sand
Alafla meal and pellets
Bat Guano

It has been turned, watered and re-mealed with the above items now 6 times.

Originally it was a huge pile that took 4 men about 6 hours to layer the first time.

It is Black Gold now... the only reason I'm turning it again is to break down the outer edge -- that will this time be in the middle of the pile.

Yes and no as I garden year-round here. After this last turn and when it is done I will bag it up and store it.

Thanks for the info,
Use what comes out of our poultry houses which has a great ratio of green to brown and garden waste.
But sometimes it needs a shot of nitrogen to get it hot again.
The blood meal sounds like a great idea!
For kitchen produce waste we made a little worm farm in the garage in a 2x4 foot bin and they have done a great job.
I just have to figure where I'm going to move the little guys to for the winter because they are "red wigglers" and need to be kept at about 50F, minimum.
