Man in the Glass!! Words of Wisdom?? Read Gently and You decide

The first time I heard this, I was at a sales seminar run by a "motivator" for the company I worked for in the States back in the 80s. He claimed to have found it, hand written, in a mini bar in a hotel in Wisconsin and sent me a copy which I lost but stumbled on it again and thought I would share it with you all. Let me know what you think.

The Man in the Glass
When you get what you want in your struggles for self
And the world makes you king for a day,
Just go to a mirror and look at yourself
And see what that man has to say.
For it isn't your father or mother or wife
Whose judgment upon you must pass,
The fellow whose verdict counts most in your life
Is the one staring back from the glass.
Some people might think you're a straight-shooting chum
And call you a wonderful guy.
But the man in the glass says you're only a bum
If you can't look him straight in the eye.
He's the fellow to please, never mind all the rest

A good rhythm/meter and fun to read but methinks finding it in a hotel minibar was appropriate....I think I'd have to be lubed to truly appreciate its bar room philosophy (and Homey don't do that anymore!  ;) ;D  Too self/inward focused to me...the man in the mirror is just some mug that gets shaved....I'd much rather be judged by God and those I leave behind.... ;)  Guess I've met too many folks in my line of work that could look themselves in the eye as men/women of high integrity, right after they'd committed a horrendous evil on someone else :'(....that's my story and I'm sticking to it.... ;)

Dang...you're sure an easy guy to get along with, HR!!  ;) ;)   Don't know if you've heard that old C&W song, 'That's my story and I'm sticking to it' but I always got a kick out of it.... my wife doesn't buy that line from me anymore..  :-\
