Brian,

First I want to thank you for doing such a good job keeping the board free from spammers. Is there any way you can set up the board so that when we see posts from maggots like magburrou, we can just select his post only to "Mark Read" just to clear them from "..last visit" and "...your posts" list; until you can remove the spammer.

Man that spammer has taken over one and a half pages of the forum and I hate to have to mark all read to get rid of him. I have reported a couple and so did 3resho and you but his posting were coming up faster than any one could report.

I concur.

The 'ignore' thing didn't work quite as expected..   The post content is hidden, but it still shows up as a 'new' post.  I'm thinking if a user is ignored, you shouldn't even see the original post to begin with.

Hi Habs

I could not find a modification to add a "Mark Read Button" that will work in the "Show Unread Post or New Replies" in this version of SMF.

When you use the Show Unread Post...... and then click on a subject,

Then go back and click Show Unread Post again that subject should be gone from your unread topics list.

I know it would be easier if there was a button besides Mark all Messages Read that could just mark individual posts I

will send this to our IT Dept maybe somebody there can find something.

Brian - While they're looking into this, see if your IT guys can add another button with a "Detonate Spammer" command.

I'm on another forum and we have a option to ignore members.
All you do is add the member to your personal list and nun of his threads or posts show up.



But isn't it easier to report the abuser and have him banned. Then all the moderator has to do is ban his IP address. Then he can't even rejoin unless he goes to another pc.

I wish that was the case but it really is not.

I can spoof an IP at the rate of one address per second. So blocking an IP is no longer effective in keeping someone of knowledge out. Now if you can grab a mac address then the story does change some for the better. But even then mac addys can be spoofed by those in the know.

The question for the intruder is it worth the effort? On this site the answer would 99% of the time no it is not worth the effort.

10 years ago banning someone's IP or the range on the last set of his octet (XXX_XXX_XXX_0-255) was effective but not today.
