manual stuffer VS Attachment for grinder

Hey guys, 

I have a Lem 5lb manual stuffer that I got last year.    It does a pretty good job, but I have no good place to secure it to the counter so that it doesn't move.  It tends to try to move around alot which can make things a little difficult, (especially now that I am missing a couple of fingers from an accident last year.)

I also have a new 1/2 hp grinder from Gander Mountain with all of the stuffer attachments.  I read where someone made a comment (on here) about these being difficult to stuff with.  What is YOUR opinion?  Let me know what you think!

Hi Firerescueman,

I used a grinder/stuffer attachment for years and finally gave up.  A dedicated manual stuffer beats them hands down IMHO.  Much less hassle - assuming you have a solid mount point.

If you counter has an overhang, I use two large c-clamp vise grips to clamp the stuffer to the counter.

not enough overhang to clamp it to the counter.....  (i know,  I have wierd countertops)  I may just have to try mounting to a piece of plywood or something....

Maybe a piece of furniture grade oak plywood, and a long strip of that rubber shelf liner stuff they sell at WalMart.  It shouldn't slide around a bit after that.  If you put a coat of poly on top of the plywood, it will clean up easy.

I have the 1hp grinder from Cabelas that I also use to stuff with. Cabelas doesn't sell a foot switch for it, so I purchased the LEM footswitch. The setup works great, I can stuff sausages by myself. I used to use a manual grinder, and tried to stuff with that - totally sucked, then went to a hand stuffer, not much better, finally went to the 1hp and never looked back!

Moount on a piece of plate AL or Steel.  Go to Lowes and get a mat in the woodoworking tool dept.  It is an anti-skid mat for laying wood one (unclamped) while you use a router.    Works great.

Another option--get a board long enough to reach across your table.  Mount the stuffer to the board, C-clamp the board to the table.
Another option (for more $$$$$$) - get a Cabelas commercial stuffer and the motor.  Mine doesn't move at all. :)
